Surftech's new B1.
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:12:44 AM »
When the Surftech guys were in town last week I got to check one out.

It looks like some kind of indestructable SUP board.. It looks like carbon but feels like plastic.. It feels like you could drive a car over it without a problem.. and not heavy.

Looks like it would be a good river board if your river has lots of rocks.. I took some pics.

This board is going to change the game. I am excited to try one. The dimensions look good as well. How was the float? seams like the volume is there? Are all of them just single fins? I may look to get something a little more aggressive than my eko paddilac sleigh.

Paddled the B1 at the BOP2011. Caught waves,(I don't surf SUP much) quite stable and not heavy. The Oregon Rep just throws the B1 out of his van to show off its durability. Made in the USA with some high end Hot tub process. Pretty cool and around the same price as the Bad Fish inflatable.

@DJ... I do not want to change the thread subject (B1)...but any chance you could comment about any of the "other" Surftech boards that were there for Demo ??

On your pictures...it show a Gerry Lopez quad next to the B1 ... Was there any of the new GL 9' Surf Music that is coming out this year ??  ???

Thx..

So, is it a hard, epoxy type, or softer to the touch? Kind of hard to tell by the pics.

Thanks!
Pete.

When I saw it at BOP Cali last year I noticed it was rock hard, except for the pad, obviously. Yeah, surprisingly light, and the guy absolutely slammed an aluminum paddle shaft on the rail and the thing just bounced off like nothin!! Incredible technology... Would love to toss one off a cliff like they did!

Sure seems tough as nails from watching that video.  That weave on the board looks similar to a material that was used on some SMA skateboard decks not too long ago, and they were near indestructable. Even if it can take the abuse, it sure hurts to watch :o

This boards appears to be made from a polypropylene/fiberglass material trade named Twintex.

I have built kayaks using Twintex and also seen canoes and helmets made with this material. It is very tough and durable.

saw this one on FB. guys from a shop called strongwater in Montana I think. Kayak guys, most of their FB page is whitewater SUP/kayak stuff. Looks like it surfs pretty good.
