Anyone Ride The New Hobie CM Raw?
« on: February 07, 2012, 09:58:31 AM »
Saw a different/new Hobie entering the water the other day (Sunday morning) at Dpatch and after a short search, found out that it was their new "CM Raw".

Just wondered if the SUSer on that board posted here (or anyone else that has ridden one) and be so kind as to post a little about the board and ride.

Thanks.

Sweet!  Always nice seeing these companies improve on their boards.  Seems to be competitively priced considering the CF.

14 lbs for a 9'4", THAT is insanely light... before pad?  Great price.

808-don't you think the tail looks too narrow for quads?

Never thought about the tail being to narrow for a quad.  Guns have them and they have narrow tails so I guess not. I like everything else though they seam like a really nice board, made in the USA is nice.

Haven't been on any of the "raw" boards yet, but my go to board is the Hobie 8'6" CP Torque - rails wrapped in carbon fiber and no stringer.  From what I understand it's pretty similar to the raw boards.  I ride mine with the JM future fins and absolutely love it.  Super responsive.

You think the 8-6 would float 220 lbs?

No.

I'm about 170 lbs, depending on whether I have any rubber on or not, and though I don't have any troubles when it's glassy, if there's a chop, I have to work a little to keep my balance.  Of course, this board is still new to me, and i just moved down from a 10' C4, but still.

My buddy has the exact same board, and though he's checking in at 185ish, he's a better surfer with much more experience, and though he sits lower in the water, he still rips.  However, he told me he thinks he's pushing the limit on weight.

Still, there are a bunch of different sizes on the Raw models.  I wouldn't hesitate to give em a try.  On mine, the carbon eliminates all rail dings, it's super light, and so far pretty durable.  I have gotten some minor heal dents, but nothing serious.  No worse than every other surfboard I've ever had.  Love my board, and super stoked.  I'm places on the wave I couldn't touch before.  And the drive down the line is fantastic.  8)
