chopping firewood as wintertraining
« on: December 15, 2011, 09:14:48 AM »
hi friends,
i think that chopping firewood is the perfect wintertraining for me. i planned to do some paddling, but in our dreadful winterwheather here in  northern germany, nothing is attractive or healthy about being wet in the wind.
but  chopping firewood is a really good workout and it keeps you warm.
like with paddling you need the right tools for it too:  an axe, an oven to burn that stuff, a saw, all good and  interesting toys.
what do you think?

Rocky Balboa did that too for training to fight Ivan Drago and Rocky ended up winning. So I'd say it's good.

Chopping wood is next on the list.  So far this fall, my cross training consist of putting down the leaf blower and raking leaves by hand.  I kept switching back and forth from the Hawaiin to the Tahitian stroke.  I'm hoping to get PB to study and upgrade my rake by next year...maybe a 90 flex shaft and more surface area for the rake!

That is way funny. (hmmmm, far bigger market for a better rake.)

I split my wood "some at a time" rather than all at once. Burn about 3 cords a season. Any water without current is ice right now within 100's of miles from me for another 4-6 months. Winter is long, yes?
Ivan Drago and Rocky Balboa. What a fight. Good stuff. How can you walk out of the room near the end of that movie and miss that.  And then you get Rocky the diplomat "I guess I didn't like you much none neither" "maybe we can all change"

One of the more satisfying workouts. Logs -> Workout -> Firewood

Glad to hear i am not alonel! i thought all the time that i am the only person who takes raking as a sup-training.
