8'5" Starboard Pro - best fin for windsurfing?
« on: September 25, 2011, 10:15:15 AM »
Borrowed a friend's rig and windsurfed for the first time since 1993 yesterday.  Wind was up and down 22 - 30 mph.  Had trouble getting the board to plane or point using 4.5 m sail and 9" dolphin surf fin (largest I currently own). I know the surf tail rocker is the main problem, but I wonder if I could squeeze some more performance out of the board with a better fin.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.

That board isn't going to plane or point very well no matter what fin you put in it. Most strapless sailing SUPs aren't designed with planing in mind; more schlog for waves, then get on and ride the wave.

There are, however, some longer SUP's that plane better than that - but they significantly sacrifice in wave performance.

22-30!  I that happens often you need a wave stick 80L or less.  How was the wave riding in that kind of wind?
