Thanks' for the re-post! I had not seen that before. What a great SUP break. Big enough, not to steep. Maui?

With all due respect to Chuck Norris... Laird is THE ultimate Bad-Ass... end of discussion. IMO of course.

he's no chuck norris, but it makes me want a pearson arrow laird. I heard he rides a custom bob pearson 10'6" which is the yellow and red board, can anyone confirm this?

Yeah ---thats a good one....I like it  cause usually you see Laird just riding big waves and on the cutting edge of whatever, the craziest stuff way before anybody....this video shows that he is a really well-rounded surfer as well.  Love it!!

Watching laird and this video of dino tassara being able to toss around a big naish nalu (looks like the 11'6 or 11'4) so easily makes me think I don't really need to go to smaller on my next board. He gets a little repetitive with the 360s but has the best recovery ive ever seen around 1:15.

The move at 2:00 is a mindbender. I've tried that a hundred times, pulled it off once by accident. For Laird it looks about as hard as tying his shoes.

For all the amazing stuff I've seen him do over the years one of the most vivid was simply carrying a board to the water. At a Naish event for Boys and Girls club Laird showed up with his daughter Reece. After talking awhile he picked up a Naish 11'6" with one hand gripping the rail and walked about 100 feet into the water, holding Reece's hand. No more effort than I would make holding a hot dog. I think of that often when I wonder how fit he can really be.

Answer--not human.

No one can pick up a slippery, 40+ pound, thick SUP board by the rail with one hand and hold it without effort.

It's easy...all you have to do is dedicate your life to being in the best possible physical condition a human body can be in. Mix that in with some snippets of genetic code from the gods and you're there.

Larid Hamilton won American Idol using only sign language.

Laird Hamiltion is so awesome he created fire by rubbing two ice cubes together.

Laird Hamilton once urinated in a semi truck's gas tank as a joke... that truck is now know as Optimus Prime.

...sorry, had to break out the Chuck Norris jokes.   ;D

That Naish 11'6" is 5.25" thick - I suspect I could barely get my hand around it.

The guy is ridiculous. He rides bicycles with Lance--and keeps up. He not only did the Ride Across America (3500 miles), he started the ride by SUP paddling 110 miles. He soloed the length of the Hawaiian Island (350 miles) with Dave Kalama. Invented tow in, surfed every serious wave, invented hydrofoil surfing--you name it, he did it, longer, harder, faster, better than anyone else and the only person he competes with is himself.

The more you know about Laird, the less likely he seems.

Kalama says if he entered a SUP race, any race, he'd win. I've seen him go from Jaws left to Jaws right on a SUP what looked to be as fast as a jetski. I know it wasn't, but it looked like it--it was ungodly fast.

You can't talk about Laird without babbling like some demented fanboy.

No one who wasn't just swallowing the bile of their own inadequacy has ever said anything bad about him, except that when he's in a wave, it's his.

And that would be because it abso-fucking-lutely is.
