Pics of the new 'real' Fanatic.
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:55:54 PM »
I think most know that the first new red Fanatic's were super light weight pre production boards and now the real production boards are here.

My local shop just got them in so I took a few pictures.

The one with the black line in the graphics is the carbon version and without it and the white bottom is the cheaper wood version.

A friend brought his new 14' Fanatic on our down-winder today and it was pretty fast and went very well.. Next DW'er I'll paddle it myself and see how it compares to my Glide.

Nice.  Any chance you can do a weight check?  I am trying to decided if the carbon is worth extra $$

Thanks as always for great photos and the report.  Would you say these are downwinder boards, race boards or a hybrid design?

Hi DJ... Looking forward to read your DWer and overall report on this board !!  :)

I did paddle both Fanatics, the 12'6 and the 14', on the ocean during a very calm day... and I did LIKE the Fanatic 14' best.

But it will be very informative to hear the thoughts and opinions of others like yourself, who have experienced on choppy and DW conditions, and also with so many other boards...such as the Naish Glide, Starboard Open Race, Coreban Alpha (12'6 or 14'), etc...

Thx for keeping us informed... It is well appreciated.

We didn't put it on a scale but the feeling was the production carbon is about 3kg heavier than the demo model and the wood version about 6kg heavier than the demo. So for the cheaper construction, you are adding 3kg.

Hey DJ, are those decks recessed at all?  They look almost convex like the Naish Glide decks etc.

I'll try and do an accurate weight check for you.. I would have thought one or two kgs max diff (2-4lbs).

I'm sure this new Fanatic 14 will work well on a down-winder but I'm guessing it would work better in lighter conditions and I've heard that because of the high volume in the nose area they are hard work in side winds.. I think they will work alot like down-winding the Javelin where you need to keep it going straight because if that cutting type nose catches it will want to turn and broach.. It will be interesting to see how surfable it is and if getting on the tail does life the nose enough.. I'll let you know for sure once I've tryed it.

The front deck is very raised with a sharp ridge down the center and the standing area is pretty flat and maybe slightly convex to help shed water and possably add strength and stiffness.. When I paddle it next I'll check just how much.

Boy, you're getting a laundry list of Zoner questions to think about when you paddle this board next!  Thanks a lot.  I'll look forward to the report.

It takes a quiver to do that.

Here's a vid from todays demo with a Fanatic Team Rider in Jupiter, FL.  This version has a turned down nose for flat water.  I am trying to demo a the "ocean" model with the turned up nose since I want to use it for downwinders and ocean paddling.

Looks like he may be standing too far back.  the front foot of the board isn't even in the water.

Yeah, we spoke about that and he was breaking down the stroke to get us started.  He also stands on one foot and just paddles around.  Pretty cool to watch and tough to try.
