Shit the guy on the kayak don't look like he knows what he's doing. I say get someone who can actually paddle in a straight line or even have the technique down. ::)

Ha ha, it was actually me who went way off course. He was paddling straight. I didn't look up the first 50 yards or so and when I did I was way off already. That means I took the scenic route and still won :-)

Never have liked sit in kayaks.  Always felt too enclosed.  Then I got a Native Watercraft Ultimate 14.5.  That particular kayak is designed to stand up and pole.  Love that kayak.  It is what got me standing up and led to discovering SUP.

It's just the distortion from the camera lens, he's holding the paddle right. At the end he holds the paddle up in victory, and you can see the forward bend. Anyone who races the socal ocean series knows SUP's will beat racing kayaks, and OC's, but not usually Surfski's. I think they are the fastest human powered watercraft there is.

On a SUP I'm a mid pack rec racer.  Saturday I raced 3.5 miles averageing 4.3 mph on my Starboard Pin.

I paddled my V10 S surfski in a 6 mile race recently.  The conditions ranged from smooth to washing machine.   A paddleboarder,  one of the top three finishers in our local race scene, beat me on his 14' Dean Johnson Dream.

I tried like crazy. I was catching swells, but so was he. I just couldn't catch him.

All things being equal, a surfski will beat a paddlleboard, but...all things are never equal, and it depends on the engine.

Your right on about all thing not being equal. Into the wind I get killed on my unlimited SUP. Downwinding, I kill it. The one time that being tall really helps. I should wear a Camber Induced rash guard/sail, body suit. I'd say with my height and wing span, I'm about a 1.5 meter sail. ;D

that's hilarious.  the kayak guy is swerving and is in a short heavy tupperware rec boat - very little forward speed, doesn't help to swerve, widely.  vs my 18' carbon sea kayak and a very good forward stroke, much different results.

best to match same length, watercraft wt, and paddler ability for an even race.

The guy on the SUP stated it was him that swerved widely off course, and not the kayaker. The camera plays tricks it seems.

Yepp, again, I took the scenic route so to say ;-). Today I ordered a real race board so that should be less of an issue now ;-)
