Lahui Kai 14 vs. Bark Dominator 14 ?
« on: May 11, 2011, 07:57:52 PM »
I'm looking for some comparative feedback on these 2 boards. I'd like to hear some experienced opinions about the flat water and open ocean performance of these 2 boards. Maybe even speculate which board would be best for a 20 mile race with a 10 mile bay leg and a 10 mile ocean leg (hypothetically downwind). Thanks.

The Ross Island Race in Portland last weekend the Greatdane on a dominator and Cyril on the Lahui kai had a great battle. Cyril was first around the Sellwood bridge then tagged a submerged post following Greatdane. Beau waited as Cyril gathered himself, quite a gent.
Beau wins by a minute and half over a 6 & 1/2 mile course thru wind, rain, current and fishing boats.

Thanks for the feedback gorgebob, I like the photo.  Are Beau and Greatdane the same person? I'm also interested in hearing more feedback from anyone else if possible, especially about these boards respective performance in ocean downwind conditions.

I've paddled the Lahui Kai on flat water and in down wind conditions and it goes ok.. It's a bit tippy for me at my weight (200lbs) and IMO it's better suited to flat water paddling and light wind down-winders.

Are you talking aboutthe Surftech Jamie Mitchell 14', the Lahui Kai Orca 14' hollow molded, or the Lahui Kai 14' foam/epoxy?

Thanks for the feedback DJ and GD. I get the impression they are both solid flatwater boards. Any opinions on which one has an advantage in a 10 mile open ocean downwind race? To keep it simple, let's say the comparison is between the surftech versions of these respective boards.

The Lahui Kai Mitcho review on SUPglobal.com

SUPgladiator review of the Dom

Hope these are helpful.

There is also about 20 more liters of volume in the Mitchell which might be good, depending on how much you weigh.

Thanks again for all the input. I found some more good info on the thread about the surftech Bark Dominator; Bing even gave his rating of the boards for different applications and conditions.
