Mistral's 2011 SUP Boards
« on: May 08, 2011, 01:27:50 AM »
My all time favourite windsurf brand has announced their 2011 line.

http://www.mistral.com/sup/sup-boards/

The race models look interesting for sure. Anybody saw them in real?

One of my favorites as well.  Unfortunately no one near me is a Mistral dealer anymore and I have not seen there new sub's first hand . I'll keep my eyes open.  I still have my original pan-am sail board from around 1983. Incidentally that was the board that after removing the center board ,I first tried stand up paddling on about 5 years ago .

One other issue is the powerbox.  Limits fin choices a bit.

Anybody had a chance to test these new boards? We got one allround model to our local shop but it was sold within 24 hours. Boughy by a loyal customer of Mistral. I had no chance to test it. But the look and the finishing quality looked really good.
The crossover model might be a good alternative to Starboard Widepoint and the race models look promising too.

This new Mistral board looks great from the rear...  ;D

And their new race board also looks good.

I agree, the rear view is good.  ;D

The race board looks interesting but I haven't had a chance to test it.

Finally our local shop in Mallorca has some Mistral boards.
The wave model looks very nice, it is 8'6'' long. Too small for me but I hope to try the 9'8'' model soon.

Has anyone tried the allround or wave models?

That video has a lot of bad paddling technique

Hope the boards work better

I'm not sure Mistral is distributed here in the USA any more

I used the allround model for 4-5 days and it is a quite comfortable board. Very allround as it's name.
I have the wave 9'8 model. I bought it to learn wave surfing and am very satisfied with it. The build quality, stability are OK and it is really easy to catch waves. I have couple of friends who have the 8'6 model and they are happy with it too.
The race models are purely for flatwater races not so versatile like Fanatic 12'6 or 14 models.

I tried the allrounders and the wave8.6.
Very stable, but with very little noserocker. As soon s you got any momentum you have to move to the tail to prevent nosedives. This happens a lot quicker as with I know from the Starboards and Naishes I paddled.

The 8.6 is a beauty!!
With 91kg its stable, but I found that board rather overrockerd, there isnt a flat poiint anywhere.
Its makes it very turny but also loosing speed quickly and and twitchy when going fast in a bottomturn.

havent paddled the 14 and12.6racer yet.
