Beautiful job...keep thinking about building one. What woods did yiou use...the deck looks awesome! One of our paddlers in the CCBC has a beauty. We we're all jealous of his setup during the breaks in last years crossing.

Thanx guys!!

The veneers are zebrano, burl and wenge!

I have pics of the whole build.. maybe ill do a blog or something and post all the pics there.

Id like to know what other did with fin setup... did they just keep the two fins or changed the setup? Id like to try adding a third longer fin for better tracking but dunno how thatll affect turning and manuverability.. id also like to try one single fin. Mainly im gonna do is flat/ choppy water and downwind.

Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Great choice of veneers. The burl looks awesome against the others...top notch job.

Ryan ...guy in the pic....glassed on the twin fins. He also inorporated a dry storage box and compass into the deck and did some nice pyrography.

I think if I ever build one I'll put fin boxes in instead of glassing on. It would be nice to have options.. Board seems to track really well with the V and the twins though. Given that its not really meant for surf I think I'd go with a couple of low profile weed shedding fins with a fair amount of surface area to maximize the tracking.

I'm really interested in seeing the build picks, as I am considering the same project soon.
Really, really nicely done.

Nice deck.  I did a standard kit build with skegs deleted and a standard fin box added.  I mostly use a RFC bamboo kelp fin but I wanted some flexibility.

There is one other user who has built a Kaholo as far as I know: Jeff Bach.

Thank you! How do you like the tracking with a single fin? Where did u place the fin?

Have u tried a kaholo with the skegs so u can compare the two ?

Where can i buy a standard fin box?

Cheers

I haven't tried another Kaholo so I can't compare but the tracking with a 9-10" fin is as good as in my starboard all arounder.  No complaints.  The fin box is placed between bulkheads 6 and 7.  I used the least dense redwood 2x4 I could find but the CLC forum had a post within the last couple of months showing a lighter more elegant soloution with bridging reinforcements over the box.  If I build another I'll look into balsa to keep the weight down.

I bought the box from Foam E-Z but they are readily available from most surf shops locally.

Wow, thats a crazy nice board man.  What are the dimentions?  Weight?

Have you considered making a template kit with instructions to sell?

Yep at least one more.  thx for remembering me GSX!

My Kaholo was a very enjoyable build.  Love paddling it.  I did a tiny bit of inlaying using purpleheart, other than that I left the deck plain old merante.  I did add a handhold in the middle and a Scotty rod hold base.

My ONLY issue and its really none of my business - is that CLC just does not seem very supportive of the Kaholo.  I can't figure out why they are not making more noise about what they have.  I think their plan is top notch.

oh well.  Once it stops snowing here in the middle of the craton and the local icebergs melt, I'll be out on it.

greatdane

These boards have so much more soul than plastic foam... I'm just too lazy to build one (-:
