This is the only one of these boards that I know of and I don't think they are in the US yet.. When I see Jonathan next I'll measure it for you but I'm guessing it's about the same as (if not very close) to the Glide.. btw.. Jonathan is in Maui right now and about to paddle the Maui to Molokai race tomorrow.

What do you mean by.. "Measured from 6" bottom of tail outwards to fin box".. ?

DJ

DJ,

Starting point bottom of tail to 6" upwards towards fin box. Or at 6" width of tail measure from deck to bottom equals the thickness I am looking for. Mahalos

I bought an Open Ocean 14'0" a few weeks ago and am so happy with it, I'm buying a second one so I can get the kids/wife as training partners.

That's an endorsement! You weren't even tempted to make the second board a Coast Runner 14' ?

Naah, I have bought a second Open Ocean so I can train against my kids and friends without there being any technological advantage, kind of like match racing you know?

Due to our low period swell, the Open Ocean is the best board for here in Perth, Western Australia, I absolutely love it and have paddled it ever second or third day so I'll be heading offshore pretty soon to have a crack at downwinding as that's my ultimate goal.

It is a brilliant shape, no doubt. I have last year's Elite Race 14' which is a lot of fun but the quantum leap to this new board is heart breaking. Oh well, I now have the current 12'6 Race to at least ease the pain.

Is the Open Ocean or Coast Runner that much different than the elite race that it is a quantum leap differnce.  Should I throw out my Elite Race and buy a OO or CR? :o

LOL DJ, The fin's out of the bottom board so I can get them both stacked on my wagon.

Rumor is there may be more changes in 2012!

Probably, likely. I rode star sail boards for years, so I know that they always come up with something better, as opposed to the rebadging process (they call it technical refinement) some of their competitors seem to be happy with.

These 14'0" Open Ocean's will keep me going for two years, then I'll be up for two new ones.
