The coveted 2011 Z.M.P.P. Award!
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:40:19 AM »
You can only have one paddle for all aspects of your addiction. What paddle and why?

We can tally up the winners after a few weeks and crown the coveted 2011 Zone's Most Popular Paddle (Z.M.P.P. award).

Please refrain from the "I can't pick one because..." arguments and contribute your entry and reasoning in 50 words or less (many of us Zoners have a seriously short attention span).

and the first 2011 Z.M.P.P. award goes to... (To be announced after 50 entries)

Three pc Werner Nitro.
Because I love the one pc version and the three pc is almost as good therefore if I had to choose just one it would have to be the travel version.

QB Kanaha (kahana?)  (wow, that is a rabid display of my ignorance of all things Maui!)

100 size... just the right sized bite.

Just the right level of flex.

Probably need to get a new one... as mine is three years old...

My Vote is for the Werner Fuse

Narrower blade, but plenty of catch and surface area.

Kialoa Methane.  Like the feel.  Easy on shoulders.

Kialoa Methane.  Small blade and light.  Easy on the joints as well.

QB Kanaha adjustable 100.  Light and strong, and goes from 82-88 inches, so gives an ideal range for me for diifferent conditions, boards, techniques...

Plus, I don't have to worry about water getting in--if it does, I just take the end off.

Kialoa Methane for everything.. (Surfing/Racing/Dw'ing).. It's small.. lightweight.. and the springy shaft has a nice oval shape.. I also love the small T grip handle.

OK I'll bite. This is how crazy I am.

First paddle a C4
Switched to a Surftech because the shaft was so flexy.......nice!
Switched to a Kialoa because the shaft was oval and flexy........nice!
Switched back to a C4 because the dihedral blade pulled smoother......like a hot knife in butter!
Switched to a Quickblade because it was the lightest paddle on the planet.......nice!
Switched to a Werner Nitro because it's the narrowest blade, oval shaft, and dihedral.....nice!

Switched to.......no idea. Check back next year  ;D

For only surf: Kialoa Methane

For use that includes distance: Werner Nitro

I've tried or owned most of the current offerings....

Kialoa Shaka Puu - Light and snappy w/ just a bit more surface area than the Methane.  I like it for the power you can get out of it.

Werner Spanker...love the grab. I am getting a fuse for racing and downwind though, even bigger surface area but the narrower blade should help with a higher cadence.
