I tried today the fuse with the bent shaft. The bent shaft feels little weird in the beginning but after getting used to it, I really liked it. The lower arm and hand have a more comfortable/ergonomic position and it feels like the reach is more. If it is worth to pay extra 75$/100 €, that´s another question.
The fuse feels bigger than nitro but smaller than Spanker although it is in reality bigger than Spanker. The slim shape makes it feel so. For touring it is more suitable compared to Spanker, at least for me. I decided to train with nitro one or two months and then see if I need the fuse. I want to attend to a long distance race in September, total of 200km in 5 days and my guess is nitro will be more suitable for that race if I don't get strong enough :-)
I would definitely consider the bent shaft but it is sold here for 400-450€ equivalent of 600$ >:(

I started using Nitro a few weeks back and love it.  No flutter when driving it hard.  Plenty of pull and easy on the joints.  I am 160 lbs though.  Jose at Aquatica here in PR is a dealer and he weights around 190 and uses Nitro in surf.  But like other guys have said, Fuse would be great or even better if you dont have any shoulder or elbow issues or if you prefer to pull hard instead of quicker cadence.

Is anybody using the Fuse adjustable shaft? One idea I have is to sell Spanker and get the Fuse with adjustable shaft and use it both for waves and racing/touring. What is the disadvantage of having an adjustable shaft for racing except the extra weight?

I am going to test the Nitro bent out . Have been using the Kialoa methane for flatwater. 160lbs.
The bummer on the Nitro bent is its a little heavier and no cut to fit option. Will let you know on the test.

Gorgebob,
in the website of wernerpaddles, it says the bent shaft comes btw 74-86 in length. Can you explain what you mean with no cut to fit option, thx. Yes, it is little bit heavier but I don't think it is a deal breaker.

I know this thread is Fuse or Nitro but you will find our comparison of the Fuse and Spanker by Scott at 220 pounds useful in evaluating how to proceed with a new paddle. His comments are pretty insightful. You can view it here: https://www.paddleboardspecialists.com/info_blogpost.asp?id=58

This review compares only the standard shaft version. My own opinion is the Fuse is the better choice for your situation in one of its iterations.

Just got my new Fuse 3 piece adjustable (86" to 90" ) today. going to be a great addition to the paddle quiver. Will be my distance/downwind/race paddle and backup surf paddle (to my spanker) and I can take it traveling.

Gary and Bob,
thx for the comments. Yes, I decided to go for Fuse. Did anybody test the standard shaft vs adjustable shaft? Any major disadvantages of the adjustable shaft in terms of flex, durability etc?

My Nitro adjustable broke last week, it broke just above the paddle blade where the female blade fitting ends the shaft broke clean off.
After going back and forth with Werner they have decided to send me out a new one for free!
The paddle was a bit over a year old, I was paddling very hard on a windy day.
I am so happy they decided to warranty it because I really like this paddle a lot and was going to try another brand if they didn't warranty it.
I have been surfing with my wife's paddle which is over a foot shorter and man does that suck, hunched over, no balance, no power, paddle is slippery and too heavy, I will be getting her a small bladed fiberglass paddle.
Anyways, the adjustable paddles are not as good as a one piece IMO, they have holes in the side for the slide lock mechanism and when you drop it water pours in. I had put electric tape over it but it leaks and you have to constantly change it. Also it doesn't slide that freely after it gets gunked up with salt, in fact I could not get mine apart with all my force.
From what I understand Werner sells their paddles with the handle glued on permanently unlike other paddles that require you to cut the shaft to length and glue the handle on yourself. You get the Werner in the length you want and there is no further cutting down possible.

If you are quite certain about what length you need I would just get that length, otherwise I would buy the longest one and if necessary cut off the handle and install another brand handle with 5 minute epoxy so it can be removed with a heat gun as you cut the shaft down to smaller lengths.
Cutting off the handle voids the warranty however.
