The 2011 Cape Cod Bay Challenge Event Series
« on: January 06, 2011, 08:09:10 PM »
In 2010 the CCBC ohana raised $80,000 in support of the kids staying at Christopher's Haven while they underwent treatment for cancer. This year The stoke for the 2011 CCBC event series is off the charts. After a very successful 2010, our 1st year with multi events we're upping the bar.

Starting off June 12th with the Wellfleet SUPathalon and SUP Surf contest. A BOP style event with a daylong beach party and Surf contest to boot...classic Cape Cod beach bonfires, sand in your suits and smiles on faces.

July 16th....The Challenge on the Charles.. a 4 mile circuit race around the historic basin of the Charles River in downtown Boston. Racing through the lagoons next to the Hatch Shell of Boston Pops fame and out into the basin amongst the sailboats from Community Boating, a venerable Boston landmark that has been teaching inner city kids to sail since 1936. Followed with a big party on the docks at Community Boating.

August 20th....the BIG Kahuna...The Cape Cod Bay Challenge...34 miles across Cape Cod Bay from Plymouth to Wellfleet. This is our 1st year landing in Wellfleet and it promises to be one of the biggest and best events of the season. We like to party....this years pre and post event parties will be ones to remember. It doesn't get much better than stepping ashore after 34 miles with the awesome feeling of support the CCBC family brings with it. We'll have board demos, and vendor tents, good food, music and the all important Wachusett brews to help make a great day. All at a great family friendly spot under the big tent right across from the beach.

We finish off the season with a bit of craziness. The Late Summa Paddle in Humarock on Sept 17th. This is a costume required crazy SUP cruise...and if there is surf...surf. We finish with...you guessed it...a party. Last year pirates and vampires danced with hulk hogan and Thurston Howell III to steel band reggae after a beautiful afternoon on the water.

All of the events will have great raffles and auctions for some awesome gear....last years featured, a new Naish Glide 14, a custon Vec 12-6, lots of Maui Jims sunglasses, a mini-vacation at the Hyatt Maui, Kialoa paddles, Cape Cod Beach Chairs, artwork from our own Tracy Dudley and Rick Romano....and way, way more than I feel like typing here.

All the events have paddler t-shirts and for the paddlers of the Cape Cod Bay Challenge a Hepi Maxwell CCBC Hei Matau and a swag bag full of goodies. Check out http://www.capecodbaychallenge.org ...the new website and event info will be up soon but you can check out some of last years events (which we are going to blow the doors off this year). Come join us for the challenge, join the growing CCBC ohana, and help support the kids as they go through their own much greater challenge.

Hope to see you there.

Crazy stuff happening, new website for the CCBC to be deigned by one of the hottest webdesign firms in Boston, planning full page ads for this seasons events, emails coming in fast and furious looking for info....going to be a great summer and I can't wait to see what we can do for a party in Wellfleet...all time.

The SUPathalon is a BOP style event...paddle out to a buoy 400yds offshore and back...run 200 yard beach loop....8 laps. You can do it as a relay as well with a runner....I'm borrowing my nieces son for this year.... ;D Last year we had some nice surf for before and after fun and it was a blast during the race. Adding the surf contest this year and you can choose to do either or both.

What will be the different cats, age groups and distances  for the Charles?

Here are the results from last year. All one distance. The distance will depend on the day. We may adjust direction and route to take advantage of winds this year. We'll likely be adding ages into the mix of classes..

Prizes are pretty simple...braggin rights and a trophy....some swag...its a fundraiser. If I remember correctly we set it at $25 for the race or surf contest or $45 for both. Laid back beach party and bonfire on the beach that night.

There is another in RI but I haven't heard much about it.

Looking forward to trying the Wellfleet Supathalon this year.  Major rebuild of the docks going on at Community Boating; should make the launch and after party that much sweeter for the Challenge on the Charles ;D

I am so stoked for this years SUP events, especially the CCBC series. I'm a newbie paddling a 10'6 psh all-arounder.  I want to get into some races though for sure ASAP.  Gotta start training here soon I guess.

Well, mahalo to anyone putting on these events and please let me know if I can help in someway.
