Gear Talk / Re: KeNalu Quick Clamp Adjustable Shaft UD Carbon
« on: October 22, 2014, 04:48:57 PM »
I have the quick clamp with the extendable T handle. I used it to dial in the length that I wanted and then hot glued it in that spot. It is very easy to do with a hair dryer and a glue gun. I thought that the quick clamp would bother me with hand positioning, but it was a not issue. I believe that it will fit on all of their other shafts since the extended T handle would also! The clamp just goes over the top and is tightend up with an Allen wrench. It's quick and easy to adjust!
If you have just one paddle for both flat water and SUSing or need an extra paddle that can be adjusted easily, this option works great! The handle itself I don't think would add much weight at all, just heat up the hot glue slide it up or down a bit and presto it's an adjustable paddle! It's a great idea and it works good too!

Yes, I've got one. I also have a bad shoulder although since I went down to the Wicki Blade (smaller) and an xTuf Shaft it has gotten better. I also moved down my surf paddle to an inch over head high and that helps also. A few weeks back I used my wife's paddle which is longer and a bigger catch on a flat water paddle with a race training board, and the shoulder flaired up again. I think the combo of a little bit more flex and a smaller blade and shorter length might help your shoulder too!
Good luck!

My wife and I spent last winter in Jensen Beach area. There were some great days locally. If you stay away from the main beach parks, you can find fairly uncrowded sand bars. PM me and I can send you picks and give you more details etc. the water did not get below 70, I wore a shorty on a couple occasions but mostly trunked it except early sessions, just a 1mm top needed! The vibe is not to bad for SUSing but I stayed away from the crowds 90 per of the time any ways!

So far I havnt really got to get it dialed in yet, but I'm not giving up on it yet either!
I've only gotten to ride it twice. The 1st time was in bumpy head high short period beach break, it did ok as a quad + a nubster. I didn't notice that it was to slow for the conditions. I thought it rode like a little bigger board, but not to bad for the conditions. I rode it Monday in some very small but pitchy bumpy shore break stuff and tried it with 3 different fin set up's. Quad=ok but a little stiff, Thruster=ok, but not much drive, Twin fin, with a Nubster and that was my favorite so far. It was looser and faster! I had a 31 1/2" Skip Smith 8'6" that I rode in the worst conditions that would come my way, and that was also my favorite set up on it!
I like the longer or wider side fins, bigger that a standard quad and a smaller Nubster or very small rear fins. There is drive + some looseness and the ability to slide the tail around if you want to?
I hope to get it out tomorrow, it looks like it might be decent w offshore winds, so keeping my fingers crossed!
I'll keep you posted!
Thx

KD,
Keeping it on the Right Coast, Lol!

Ralph,
So far it is the only set up I have tried. Those are the fins that I have been using on my other 7'10" + the Nubster, because the waves were larger than usual. I think it will be great as a straight quad, but I will definitely try all of the options and keep you informed. I've only surfed it once, today, and got out late after work and only had a few waves in bumpy head high conditions.
So far so good!

It's been a while since I oderd a production board, but I am excited to give this one a go! I think it will work well in East Coast beach break conditions for me. I've been riding similar size for a while with a few less Ltrs and a bit narrower. I'm hoping to be able to ride this on most days including back wash, side wash and chop. I've been using a 8'4" x 31" custom for those conditions and my smaller board stays on the side line until it cleans up. At 121 Ltrs it has plenty of float!
I am 55' 170 lbs on my 4th year SUPing and surfing Prone since I was a tad pole.
The 2014 models are on sale and got a great deal from my local shop, plus they come with a nice bag, so all and all it is close to the price of a top of the line custom! Hopefully it wil perform and work out just right?
I will keep you posted!

NorthWest / Re: Launch / access in Bend Oregon

Between Bend and Sunriver there are places where fisherman and kayaks go. Also a littler North of town there is another park with restrooms and covered gazebos with a small sandy beach for launching. It's just before the bridge that crosses over the river and south of the mild Rapids!

I'm in Southampton, I have a 7'11" x 30.5" and a 8'4" x 31"
I weight 170 and moved down from an all wave 2 years ago.
If you make it out this way you can demo em!

Oilhead,
I'm a just a ways up the coast from you, and since I'm a board junkie I'll give you my 2 cents! I've been SUSing 5 years surfing 49. I'm 168 and 5'10"
I've owned an 9'2" Allwave, way to big for me now, also tried the 8'10" same. I had a wide point Supsports 8'10 also way to big. What I was looking for was trying to SUS with that short board feel. Well I needed a shorter board! I had a Corban Vibe, now I was moving in the right direction, it was still 130 ltrs. 29" wide! Next a L41 S4 30 1/4" wide 7'9" so far one of the fastest boards I have been on! Next a 7'11" Phoenix, that was going back in the wrong direction, my fault, got it to big! Then I stumbled on a Hobie 7'3" simsup style swallow with a squared off nose, super fun, best for west coast waves though. I am currently riding a 7'10" Skip Smith 30 1/2" with a square tail, 108 ltrs. With the width it is stable and the thinned out rails it works very well in fast hollow and slow n mushy waves!
Keep your big board for bumpy conditions and go smaller and less volume for the cleaner days! Soon you will be putting in the effort to ride it in less than ideal conditions pushing yourself to a new level!
Best of luck in your quest for a magic board!
Enjoy the ride!
