Downwind and Racing / Re: Still sucking at downwinding + fin question
« on: June 09, 2017, 11:08:10 AM »
I don’t think it’s the wide base. Rather the low depth of your keel fin that is probably causing part of the problem. A couple of my friends have switched over to Black Project Maliko fin and they really like it for both racing and downwind.

looks fast but is it stable in all condition?

Sometimes big fins can knock you off your board. I think that in conditions other that pure flatwater it can grab too much where the fin is in control instead of you.  Fins are a personal preference so you just have to see what works for you in the conditions your going to be paddling in.

I think you will notice a big difference. I have both of those fins, but have not compared them on the same board. I have the race 20 and I’m surprise how well it tracks for such a small fin. It also has a lot of flex as the thickness gets progressively thinner toward the tip. Sheds weed like they are not even there. I really cannot find anything I dislike about it so far. The Hatchet will probably have more primary stability, but not as maneuverable when trying to change direction. The Hatchet catches weeds.

Careful, there's a lot of BS out there. Question everything.
Why?

PDX, It’s because it pisses me off when I see people being played by believing what they read or listen to in social media or political talk shows as fact without any critical thinking being put into it. It’s become an epidemic and it’s hurting this country.

WW, If it was a joke, as PB said it was poorly posted.

That's funny on so many levels.
**joke** Why? **/joke**

Dude, I knew you were being sarcastic, especially coming from you. I just wanted to vent. I find paying too much for a pen very offensive.

Ball point pens

When NASA started sending astronauts into space they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity.

To combat this problem, Congress approved a program and NASA scientists spent a decade and over $165 million developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, on almost any surface and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C.

The Russians used a pencil...

Gear Talk / Re: Quickblade carbon blade vs Vector Net blade?

I’ve notice that the vector net does not have the ABS edge which the carbon version has. In my opinion adds some durability.

if i pull the trigger it will be the DC Pro carbon for sure
The Pro Carbon is only offered in the skinny models, for the Sonic 14x23 and 14x24.5, and in the Puma 14x24 only.
It's the same for the 12'6 boards.

I recently got to paddle the 2017 All Star 14x24.5. It’s a big improvement in flatwater over the 2016. I don’t have data but could see that it slices through the water better. Also one of the things I didn’t like about the 2016 was that it tracked to good, but they moved the fin box about 6 inches forward on the 2017 making it more maneuverable. The only thing I didn’t like was the increase volume on the nose.

How did the stability compare between the two and any side by side pictures?

heres the inside of a carbon Sand which all star

That looks like a pretty solid construction. Is repairing a sandwich construction the same as a regular construction? Was the damage caused by an impact or defect?

this one was dropped on a rock - guy was crossing over a jetty and lost his footing and dropped the board. The repair work on this will be the same layup carbon/divinycell/carbon/gel coat - the pic shows it prepped for repair, cleaned all the loose fibers etc.  what ill do is layup carbon then add divinycell and vacuum bag that on blend the divinycell out so theres no voids and a nice smooth transition then come back with another layer of carbon and vacuum that on and same thing blend it all out nice and smooth with no high or low spots - then color match and blend.
Sounds like a solid repair.  By seeing pictures of your work it will be as good as new. Thanks for posting.

When I read that the “researchers examined the Facebook posting” my bullshit meter redlined for this study. I wonder what they would have found if the researchers would have visited a prison. Anyway, thanks for sharing Stoneaxe even though I think the study is fucked up.
