The Shape Shack / New addition on the way ... Lazy Boy SUP
« on: February 02, 2017, 06:49:03 PM »
The Lazy Boy SUP combines the outline and rocker from Lost's Lazy Boy with the bottom contours of the best selling Lost Puddle Jumper.  The result is a low rocker small wave SUP design that can also handle larger waves.

Lazy Boy SUP: 6'6" x 26.77" x 3.96" x 82L
1.5# EPS Marko Foam Blank

Because of the narrow hipped, continuous curve, outline, you can surf this with a centered stance for down the line 70’s inspired speed runs, down carves and cutbacks... or step back on the tail and go vertical off the bottom and in the pocket. The bottom contours consist of a rolled vee in the nose transitioning to subtle single concave through the center to spiral vee under the rear foot.  These contours free the board up, making it easy to push the pinched rail deep and perpendicular into the face of the wave, rather than skate flat on top of the water.

I like it a lot. ... I pay zero attention to it.

Ditto.  I've had it on 3 boards now and can't imagine going back to a pad.

Just got my first pic of the new LB.  I'm psyched to see the rails.

Looks great.  What was your glassing schedule?

Those are some good looking boards!  That carbon hex material looks great and sounds perfect for rails and deck areas.  Definitely going to try some of this stuff out.    How's the weight?

Thanks for the info.  Please let us know your opinions on the glass lay up (flex, durability, weight etc).

Awesome, those look sweet.  Please provide more info on the material you are using and your glassing schedule.  Where are you getting them glassed?

Yep, the clearly established rule is a quiver will always be n+1. Welcome to the addiction.

I try to stay at 2 and have a "1 in, 1 out" rule but currently have 3.    I need to sell one so I can start work on the next one :-)

My evolution wouldn't fit on screen even with triple monitors but here's a shot of my current quiver. Couple of the wife's boards in there too but I guess now that we're married, what's hers is mine and vice versa? Or maybe just what's mine is hers...?

Wow, nice.  I think the 7-10 in my evolution (left side) used to be one of yours as well ....

That's a nice quiver, esp the ones on the right.  I don't have photos of all of mine but here is a schematic of my quiver evolution over the last 18 months.  I still have the 3 on the right.  My favorite is the 6-3 Hypto, then the 6-10 Buzz.

I had an inquiry on my glassing from Pure Glass vs Bashams so I thought I'd post my feedback here to help anyone in the future.

I used Pure Glass for the Hypto Krypto.  I went with 4+4 +3/4 6oz deck patch on the top and 4+4 on the bottom.  All standard E glass. My 6-10 x 27 (11lbs) glassed by Bashams has the same glassing schedule as the Hypto Krypto so I am using this board as a reference.

I don't think Pure Glass lapped all layers of glass because the rails are way more sensitive to paddle strikes.  Even a bump during regular paddling leaves a mark.   The deck and bottom have been fine.    Pure Glass added a separate "cut lap" fee as part of the deck color charge so maybe they only lapped 1 layer of glass.     On the plus side the glass job is very light, the finished Hypto Krypto is less than 10lbs.

My 6-6 x 28 glassed by Bashams has a slightly heavier duty glass job (6+4 +3/4 6oz top, 4+4 bottom) and while it is a little heavier (12.75lbs) it is very durable (rails, deck and bottom still look new).

So based on my (limited) experience I would recommend Bashams over Pure Glass.  Bashams is less expensive (base epoxy job starts at $250 incl. fin boxes) and the finished board is more durable.    I'll be using Bashams or a different glasser (maybe Brawner) on my next board.

Please post some vid of you riding it.  Would love to see it in action.

I wish I had a personal videographer :-) I have to meet up with you in Newport some time.

Is that one package of Hexatraction? I am about to put it on a 7'8 x 26.5 BLine Infinity. I currently use wax but hoping this will be a good alternative. I don't want to pad it

You get 18 full and 4 half HEXs in a pack of Hexatraction.  I have attached a photo below that shows a full package installed plus a couple of extra cut pieces I had left over from previous installs.

For a performance board like a B-Line I think you would be OK with 1 pack on a 7'-8".  You will need more if you like to move up the board closer to the nose.    I have a 6-10 x 27 with Hexatraction and there have been a couple of times where an extra row of HEXs up front would have been nice.
