No, it's long gone.   Seeing this thread pop up brought back some fun memories though, thank you.

I saw your orange board on CL under surfboards... which is a smart thing 8) I think labeling it, stickers and logo gives it a professional finish. Which it is. Much easier to sell I that way.

I have had good luck selling my boards as mini-mals or big guy shortboards.   They usually sell in a couple of days.  The orange Tic Tac sold to the same guy that bought my old 7-0 x 24 Greedy Beever.

I saw Dave Boehne prone surfing at Old Man's on Monday, and he was riding a very similar shape. His was a little shorter and the nose and tail were pulled in just a little more. I think they call it their 'Twin Pin'?

The double ender is a great shape.  Just change the rocker and length to width ratio depending on what you want to use it for.  Short and wide with low rocker for grovelling (i.e. Lost Bean Bag), narrow and long with high rocker for high performance (i.e. Firewire Hydronaut) or anything in between.

I really like this board so I sold the orange Tic Tac (v2) and added some traction...

This shape scales very well and makes for a great SUP board due to the increased volume up front.  The pulled in tail and high tail rocker really make it really lively.   I like it so much I think I am going to also build it in 6-9 and 7-0 lengths.     My old Greedy Beaver had a similar shape and tail rocker and that was also a great board.

SUP General / Re: Surf Doheny during Ohana Fest?

Early Saturday turned out to be really fun before the tide got too high.   Sunday morning was a total mess.   It's crazy what a little 5 knot wind in the wrong direction can do to conditions.   Beautiful morning, junky conditions.  Bummer.

@digger: Hope you got some waves and had a good time at Ohana Fest.

UPDATE!
I just surfed DoHo this afternoon and the wind had died down to nothing. It was a little wonky, but not bad at all. I got a ton of waves with almost no one out.
AND..... The bands where warming up, and it was super loud (perfect in fact) in the lineup. Not sure what tomorrow will bring, but there is hope :)

Looks like it might be manageable early Sat morning.  I recommend getting out there at sunrise before the tide gets too high.   See you out there :-)

Ohana Fest (music festival) is this weekend at Doheny and wondering if anyone has surfed there during the event.  I'm going to the festival on Saturday pm, but thinking about bringing my board and paddling on Sat AM or Sunday.  Assuming it won't be that crowded as parking is no doubt going to be a mess.

Any insight is appreciated

Early mornings are not a problem but the forecast looks poor.  Small swell plus early south winds and high tide (3ft+) makes for dismal conditions.

SUP General / Re: Need to downsize for waves- focus on volume or length?
« on: September 25, 2019, 09:15:55 AM »
I've been happy on a 10'2" 205 liter hybrid board as i've learned the sport. I love the stability and i catch alot of waves (knee to waist so far) Now I'm ready to try something smaller. Should I focus on less volume (say 10'4", 170 liters) or less length (say 9'6", 170 liters)
Note- I tried a 9 foot, 148 liter board and the struggle was real. I can't go that small. Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you are ready to move down in Guild Factor (GF = L/KG).  At 180lb (82kg) on a 205L board you are currently at a GF of 2.5.   Maybe shoot for a GF of 2.0-2.1 (164L-172L) on your next board.  As you move down in GF you will get better performance.  You will notice a significant jump in performance below a GF of 1.3.

As you move down in volume try to go narrower and thinner as you go shorter.   Go down at a rate you are comfortable with.  You want to go small enough that it is a challenge for the first 5 sessions or so but not so small you are falling off all the time and not having fun.

I remember the first time I tried a board that was a big drop in GF (From 2.3 to 1.5).  It was so hard but once I caught a wave I was hooked.

Drive one ....

It's an eye-opener.

I'm with PB.  At this time I think Tesla is the best EV option.   Nothing else comes close right now.

1. 330 miles of range (LR RWD)
2. Super efficient (I avg 4.4 miles per kWh)
3. Low fuel cost ($2.00 per 100 miles)
4. Zero emissions
5. Very quick
6. Access to Supercharger network
7. Over the air updates

It was good to see you out there.    I would have liked to stay out a bit longer and surf with you guys a bit but I was tired and it was starting to get a little crowded.  I saw you get a nice one as I was heading out.   Hope to see you out there again soon.

SUP General / Re: The price of new boards/how do you choose?
« on: August 05, 2019, 05:17:57 PM »
Really curious how the cost conscious make their decisions. New, used, custom, stock, demo or just based on reviews?

From least to most expensive:

1. Design/Build your own (you'll need a place to get the blank cut and glassed)
2. Used
3. Custom from local shaper
4. Production name brand board
5. Custom name brand board

#1 I've used all of those methods but now only use #1.  If done right you can sell your board for almost as much as it cost.  There's a learning curve but you'll learn more about what you like in a board once you start designing/building and riding your own boards.

#2 is great if the right board comes along.  Only consider boards in your volume target range.   A great board with the wrong volume will be the wrong board.

#3 A good option if you can find a good shaper with decent prices.

#4 and 5 are not good options for me as I go through 3 boards a year.   Might be OK if you only buy a board every couple of years or have lots of money to spends on SUPs.

For the most part, baking the board without UV exposure should make them stronger and perhaps a little more brittle.

Interesting stuff.   Assuming the board is properly vented what would happen if you bake an EPS/Epoxy board in the sun, i.e. with UV exposure, for a short period (1-2 hours)?

Anybody have any experience with these? seems like they are making a good push in the sup market

I have the Surge 77 w/ T Handle and Soft Flex Reduced Diameter Shaft.  It took a couple of sessions to get used to the soft flex reduced diameter shaft but it is an awesome paddle.    Mine is cut to 68" and weighs 13oz.

Teslas are awesome but FSD (full self driving) is a long way off.  AP (Auto Pilot) can do strange things.  I only use it occasionally.

Elon is a genius but he oversells the FSD capability solely because it is a $5K option that costs them nothing to add since it's already built in.
