Decided not to go out Sunday....the idea of the message it sends got to me. But it wasn't easy to do. The video was Brown's Bank Saturday night from the end of my street. Still a little rough but some long rides out there. I looked Sunday mid morning with some binoculars from my deck ( a more distant view through a lot more trees) and it was chest to head corduroy and long, long rides.....probably a once every 5 year swell here so deep in the bay. It was absolute torture and I've been in a shitty mood all day because of it.

Surprised?....isn't that the point of flattening the curve? Attenuation stretches it all out. The end will be even further into the future too.

In all seriousness. I was planning on going out tomorrow. It's rare for us to get really good surf here this deep in the bay....tomorrow is supposed to be one of those days. Maybe even a once/5 year day. I'm still torn.  Supthecreek has even decided to stop going out for the duration.....he too is concerned about the social message it sends. Are we supposed to stay inside or not? Does our surfing encourage others to do things outside? According to the Gov here we should be staying inside, EXCEPT to get some exercise if we can practice safe social distance. There are still plenty of runners out, bikes too if it's a nice day. The state closed parking lots but the beaches are still open, state parks are still open.

My town has closed the town beaches completely....but left open parks, walking, trails, and other open spaces. Which to me is ludicrous since they present less space to spread out in many cases.  The problem was we had a nice day with all the kids and most parents at home....so all kinds of folks descended on the beaches and there was more than a little social contact going on....so in a reactionary move they closed them completely. The idiots that will gather will still do it...just elsewhere.

I'm basically under complete self quarantine....some rides in my truck around town, walks in the neighborhood but that's been it. My head has gone completely south, vertigo running crazy, hard time sleeping. Being off the water is killing me. I understand the idea of the need for PPE equipment if someone injures themselves. But I'm not sure if maybe the possibility of injury doesn't increase for me by staying off the water, at least in the longer term of a few weeks more. I'll be fucking falling by then.

Still not sure if I'll go out tomorrow (actually today now) or not.

I love all the whackjobs claiming global conspiracy to go along with the 5G mind control. This is all orchestrated so they can get the chips into us all.....nucking futs.

Massachusetts just closed all beach parking lots...but the beaches can still be used for walking fishing etc.....just no crowds. My town closed the town beaches....nobody is supposed to be on them.

Not getting on the water isn't really an option for me. I'll still be going out but i'll have to launch from elsewhere.

I think we'll likely waiver back and forth a bit. This is going to need adjusting as we understand more. Testing will hopefully let us focus on where quarantine is needed. The near term is going to be rocky though. I think you're right...and I'd be happy to remain self isolated if it allowed us to both slow the disease enough and not kill the economy.
Big problem is that we have people of all ages not self isolating now. I ranted on FB today on a local page about something my son-in-law told me. He manages a hugely popular liquor store here in town. All day long he has old folks coming in for lottery tickets. One came in to bring some cans back for a 60 cent redemption. And it's not turning out to be so age centric hear in the states supposedly. Anyone with underlying conditions is in danger from this. I'm screwed with my mix of them.

I don't think it's immoral at all. I think the financial ruin will likely kill more in the long run than the disease itself does. And the pain of it will be far more widespread. I only mentioned that the financial concern is secondary to me personally right now because if we don't effectively flatten the curve and I get this at the wrong time I might not be here 6 months from now. We're also fortunate that we have no debt whatsoever.

It's likely that we may have to help my youngest daughter financially in the near future. Something that never would have happened under normal circumstances....they just bought a big new house. They need their two incomes. My daughter is in marketing/event planning and I can see her being out of a job shortly.

The whack jobs have definitely come out in force for this. They're proud of the tin foil hats now.

I was watching a little animated video today on the Dunning-Krugger effect. I'm kind of surprised it needed study to understand that people overestimate their intelligence and abilities. Of course the stupid think they're smart because they're too dumb to know better. There's also a lot of crazies out there that are intelligent.

My wife has had $280,000 in cancellations (group sales manager for a large hotel here in town) in the last couple days. This is going to be devastating to the local economy. HEAVILY dependent on tourism and travel and with this being the 400th anniversary of the town there were huge expectations for income. The planning for it has been in place for many years.
https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/07/04/2020-is-plymouths-year-start-making-plans-for-pilgrim-mage/
We have a beautiful waterfront and there have been many improvements and lots of $$$s spent in preparation for this. All the bars and restaurants in town (127) are closed except for take out or delivery. Even the liquor stores are going to take-out so you know it's serious.... :P  Some of the hotels are closed....more will be soon. Very limited retail hours. I can't imagine the pressure on folks that are already just barely making it. All the service industry jobs are filing for unemployment. She was just watching Trumps meeting with all the high level execs from all the large hoteliers and such. Everything is shutting down. The ripples from this will resonate for a long while.

I'm not all doom and gloom though. The locals that can are helping where possible...ordering out, buying gift certificates, local firemans union gave the crews $8,000 to spend on meals during shift. If you got it spend it is the mentality somewhat. I also think there could be an incredible rebound coming. This is no question a test of the spirit of all of us. I have to imagine that every resource of every lab with any work to do in the field is working at beating this some way. When it comes...and I think it will....imagine the collective weight off the shoulders of the world. I wish the assholes in charge weren't pointing their fingers at each other now. If a reason to cooperate ever existed this is it.

I'm very glad I moved the lions share of my 401k into money markets too just before the shit really hit the fan.

We'll take a hit financially but we'll be OK. I'm more concerned about if there are ventilators available when I get this thing. I'm definitely high risk. Asthma all my life, Pneumonia more times than I can remember, COPD diagnosed 2 years ago and I have high blood pressure.

My oldest daughter is also a nurse so I worry about her exposure as well. The business concerns are profound and suck but are definitely way secondary in concern.

Lots of SUP surf in Newport and Middletown. 1st and 2nd beach mostly but other spots as well. Island Surf and Sport has lots of boards. Some great surf down there with lots of spots to choose from so you should be fine.

Stoney glad to hear things are getting better and that you and Pono will be doing this years CCBC, I’ll also be paddling this year hopefully with Piece of 8 and I’ll keep trying to talk Kayadogg into doing it with his wife. More Paddlers = More $$ raised and More Fun !! I’ll try putting together a nice training paddle down my way near the Battleship this summer !!
Sounds awesome.....have you talked to 8 lately? How's he doing?

If you're serious about doing the CCBC I'll come do it with you. I'll bring along a bunch of foil stuff and see if we can get some new scars.
Absolutely.....Mike wants to do it as a team. I was thinking solo but he doesn't think he can do solo anymore. He's got some shoulder problems that are keeping him to shorter paddles. Last time we did it as a team we pretty much did the whole thing anyway so.....

Some new scars sounds good.

It's been pretty surprising. The weight loss has slowed down...just 3 lbs this last week. I've been eating more but still cutting out all the bad stuff. I'm shocked at how good I feel. And it's not just the COPD, less (almost no) back pain....even a slight lessening of the vertigo and headaches. All the inflammation related stuff seems better.

I'm stating my training for this years CCBC this week. I've been so focused on getting the CNC working and understanding the software that everything else took a back burner.

I still have a ways to go in understanding all the variables of the machines working and software will be a continual learning process but I'm over the worst humps I think for producing stuff. I did a successful test carve of a small portion of the map today but I'm going to put off cutting the whole thing until I can get all the pieces together. I'll be marrying some stereo lithography of the terrain to the ocean contour model and I need to add place names and other features to engrave with the laser. Once I put in on the machine I want to be able to do it all at once.

The 1st piece of art I'm going to do is a carving of sand ripples from the beach. I did a proof of concept today. I took a picture yesterday and converted it to a stereo lithograph. The final will be a triptych, 36" x 58" overall. I'll get a picture that exact size to convert
