Hey that's my Simsup. At 7'4" it is a blast and surfs very much like a 70's era Bonzer. It's a pocket rocket and can be pumped to high speeds down the line. A well tuned design IMO.

Was at Infinity yesterday, they have some of those pads.

Nope, I wish they did. Checked there first. Even OAM is out of stock until sometime in Feb.  :(

Guys I just had a custom board made. It will be shipping to me next week. I had the board made in custom colors to match a specific SUP pad by OAM. This is the Slater Trout OAM pad in green. I have come to find that OAM is out of stock on this until sometime in February. I have done a search of retailers that show it on their web stores, however no one has this in stock right now.

If any of you guys know where one of these is please shout out. Big Thanks Mahalo.

Here is an image of the pad.

Technique / Re: sup surfing strategy in my crowded lineup
« on: October 11, 2013, 01:02:56 PM »
I SUP surf in short board beach break waves. Most of the time I am the only SUPr for miles. My strategy... give aloha, stay out of the way, don't kook out, don't shoulder hop, respect positioning and don't wave hog.

Key to this is also to take off steep and deep and make your waves. Most of the time you will get respect and conversely if you give respect it works in crowds (mostly)

I will add my 2 cents. Gotta say been there done that. My experience is.... Short SUPs are like short boards. My meaning is they have little glide and require that you take off in the steepest part of the wave. I purposely position myself in the impact zone (just like shortys) this makes for taking a few on the head but the trade off is for most waves it is just a couple strokes and you are in. Surf stance is the only way and be prepared to make a quick hard turn going down the face to avoid pearling. A hard first turn sets you up for down the line speed and also allows you to take off "steep and deep" very close to the curl. Good luck with it.

A couple weeks back in well overhead waves I got big "hoots" from the crowd on a couple of big peak late take off hard on the rail backside waves.... made my day.

To continue on my progression of ever shorter performance surf SUP boards I have as of Thursday last week ordered a new custom L41 S4 sim sup. 7'10" x 30 x 4 5/8" Due around end September.

Current board is a Kings Simmons inspired shape 8'4" x 30 x 4 3/8"

The S4 degin has intriqued me due to the aggressive shape, accentuated deep V on the bottom and the Chined rails. I am told it surfs much more narrow than it is. Can't wait. oh boy.

yes I agree it is a great skill.  I should have clarified with saying people switchfoot surfing simply to avoid backside surfing.  If you are switchfoot surfing for variety and progression then all is good.

What is funny is I can do switchfoot with ease........ in flat water only. In surf its bye bye.

But to the other point of "avoiding backside surfing"...... backside is my favorite.

Yesterday at daybreak O'side Jetties and pier looked to be unrideable walls of zipper like way too fast to ride lefts. There was no one out. I kinda felt skunked and considered just skipping it all together. But after a WTF moment I thought ok I am here I should just put in some time to sharpen skills. It was a complete surprise that after a half hour with just a little more tide it got good, not just good but really good.... like 200+ yard lefts that were straight up peelers, no section drops. My favorite kind of waves, take off, slash turn and then its off to the races pumping it down the line. For an hour or so I caught wave after wave of this. Got some good props from a proner that saw alot of my rides. Those waves and the comment made my day.....Life is good.

Posted by: SUPerSwede: The 2014 has the vario cleat inverted, so it sits under the lower hand and nothing interferes with sliding your hand up.

Where can these be seen on the web?
