blueplanetsurf,

I will be on Oahu June 12-19.  Let me know if there are any good downwinders that you plan to do during those dates.  If so, I'd love some details.  I won't have any equipment with me so will need to grab some from you if I do any.  I would want some good conditions though to take me away from surfing.
Thanks!

JF808,

Excellent.  I will send you a PM.  I'm a little bit out of it right now as I was evacuated from the SoCal fires.  I get to return home today though.
Thanks!

JF808,  if you think of renting the 17' V1, let me know. I take extremely good care of my equipment.

You guys are awesome!
jf808,  I think it was just a few years ago after I stayed in Hawaii for the 2 months, I saw a downwind video that you posted.  I recognized the beach where you gathered and I was so wishing I was there.  I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for some of those days.  Thanks for the info you sent.  I will check em out.  Wait, I think I saw 3 SIC boards in your quiver, interested in buy back program?? ;D

punasurf,  I'd love to buy a board and do a buy back deal assuming condition is similar.  I'm pretty easy on my boards, its the airlines that trash mine.  I will send you a PM.

I will be on Oahu for a short time and then over to the big island from June 19 - July 31.

surfcowboy.
I spent 2 months on the big island over the summer a few years ago.  Loved it.  Found some good fun surf spots with zero hassle.  Lots of good friendly people.  I hit 4 different spots but usually stayed at 2 of the spots and the others really only hit when the swell was bigger.

I will be returning back to the big island for a few months over the summer.

Looking for any possible hook ups you could offer.

I would be interested in renting one of your boards, big or small for surfing or cruising.  If not for rent maybe I will look to buy then try to sell before I leave.

I'd also love to do some long distance or downwind if there are any DW'ers.  You name it, I'm game for some fun.

Thanks!

The boofing is annoying but difficult to win at (so it seems).  When I had a bow piercing board it was constantly diving into waves.  Didn't boof too much but it was so annoying how it was always diving into chop, swell, or waves.  So what's the perfect solution to avoid booting?  The fancy expensive 4.5k Naish board comes to mind.  Displacement nose but low volume with rocker (just from looking at pictures because most weekend warriors aren't going to spend that kind of money).  My starboard ACE does the boofing but has never thrown me over the board.  For SoCal most of the boofing is upwind not downwind since we don't get much.

A little disappointing that in the video that did not show much of the board.  Never really saw the nose or bottom of the board.
Is it also surprising to you that Candice is not on something a little narrower?

Wow that DW was cranking. Looks awesome. I want to do a DW so bad but hard to find in SoCal.

Downwind and Racing / Re: Blade size and racing?

What you guys are saying makes sense.  I'm gonna order me a Maliko blade just to confuse my body a bit and have the ability to swap blades based off different runs.
You guys are awesome!  Thanks for the responses.

Downwind and Racing / Blade size and racing?
« on: August 17, 2013, 03:45:10 PM »
So i've been a stand up surf addict for many years now and am just really starting to enjoy some of the coastal distance training.  I'm 5'8" and 160ish pounds.  I've been using the KeNalu Wiki blade and am thinking of trying out one size larger.  The wiki is 84 sq. inches and the Maliko is 95 sq. inches.

What are your thoughts on blade size for races in the 5 - 10 mile range based off my size?  I can feel a little bit of slipping with the Wiki which tells me I may be pulling to hard for the blade.  In the racing world have you seen a trend like we have in surfing where smaller is sometimes more efficient (being able to pick up cadence).

Thanks

I just ordered the Riding Bumps book.  After reviewing it, I think I should have started my training much earlier than 8 weeks prior. haha.
