Great retro comeback Ralph. I used to have one of the blue and yellow ones that I rode my first wave on about 50 years ago.
I have to check out our Ace Hardware now.
Deb used to love to surf those exact rafts back in our college daze...pretty fun...check out her smile...that was until there started to be a number of increasing shark bites on surfers at her fav spot...;-) Of course, our local surf god, George Greenough was the king of all mat surfers...I shared an over DOH wave with him in front, that I will never forget... GG mat wave ride slowed down on Maui in '67... [/quote] Thanks for the videos. My youngest brother recently had a bunch of my dad's old 16mm moves digitized. I am pretty sure there is some footage of George on a raft in there somewhere. Unfortunately I think most of their adventures were not recorded on film Most of the movies are motorcycle racing but there are a few reels of early 60's SB surfing. I will check it out and see about posting it when I see him next.

Cars on the wall makes great wall art. We have a family friend that has one of his
But then so is the airplane hanging from the ceiling and the vintage a loft at the opposite end of the office from his desk.

Around the SoCal region I've seen a number of shops carrying SUPs and a surprising number of van based business renting and selling SUPs along the coast. I personally don't have statistics but I generally SUP 1-2 times a week and I do see regulars but I also see the influx of new people that want to try it out and I never see them again. Larger retail chains like the Costco and REI tend to do heavy advertising for SUP combos. Overall, it's popular for people to 'try' but obtaining a sale I'm not so sure.
I'm not to surprised that the try it out folks don't show up again considering how many tourists try it on vacation them wait to buy. I was talking to a customer on the phone and she had tried out a friends board while on vacation. She was stoked to find out she didn't live to far from Gorge Preformed and could rent and buy boards there.

The lighter the better for women. My wife "can" load the beast, 11'2/29lbs on the roof, but she doesn't like to.
When funds come in, a custom, full carbon race board will likely meet her needs MUCH better and me about 18-19lbs.
Ouch that's heavy. My 14' is supposed to only be 28#. I guess shorter isn't always going to be a weight savings. I would have expected the shorter board to be lighter. I am sure nano rating the board to load would be much easier though.

If you chose to go with the full face respirator and you wear glasses you can get special glasses made and a holder to mount them inside the mask. Try checking with your local industrial safety shop to get set up. It isn't cheap but you would be surprised how many occasions you can find a use for the setup.

I still have an Osborne-1, more or less working. Can't find the disks for the operating system.
I have the disks. I'll make you a desk. You just have to take my Osborn, daisywheel printer and the extra Kaypro with them. :-)

I'm not sure if this growler will fit the cage but I love mine. I use it as a water bottle. I get some strange looks when I have it filled with ice and water in my messenger bag. Slosh slosh clink I like that they are local (at least for me) and have a great warranty. I just wouldn't buy the black one again. It doesn't take long sitting in the sun to be too hot to hold comfortably but the ice doesn't melt inside. http://www.hydroflask.com/products/64-oz-wide-mouth-vacuum-insulated-stainless-steel-growler.html#

Maybe she was intimidated by all the talk about burying the paddle.

Are the "tunnels" marked or do you have to poke about to find them the first time?

I took a friend out to try paddling and had her try a deep water self recovery. With the hight of my board she couldn't get a grip and get back on. She swam it back and was very careful to stay near shore after that.
