Would it be illegal to access waves by watercraft? The signs say "Beach Closed" - not ocean.

I never would have thunk that paddling 2 miles could be this dangerous:

I guess the way the beach faces, an afternoon onshore could be difficult to paddle against.

I think it's COHO point or something like that. I took an inflatable there with some friends about 30 years ago. Great right point.

Part of the Ranch will be open if you can make the 2 mile paddle.

Just read this in the LATIMES

There it is. I would think imprisonment would be at the top. Luckily I'm not locked up and I do have a great career that I enjoy very much.
Thanks the encouragement and for the song/video, surfercook

I don't think anyone knows who I am on this site but I have been following posters for years.  This has been a very difficult year for me as I've endured 3 of the 10 top human stressors. The Zone postings are as insightful, humorous and uplifting and as constant as the ocean's presence. What got me through this trying year were SUP sessions, especially open ocean and believe it or not, postings on this blog. It truly is a good book without an end.  A special shout-out to SupTheCreek who always has an upbeat posting about the sport and life; Pono Bill's brilliantly worded observations about basically everything; Beesho's passion and devotion to big wave surfing and all the other regulars and their insights.
Thanks to all and keep paddling!!!!

Cookie,
I was having vivid flashbacks, watching you come in and flounder on the sand.  Other than the actual injury, It looked like you were reenacting my heart attack at San O almost 3 years ago now.  That was by far the hardest video I've watched in a while, so close it was to the play by play i still have residing in my memory.  My empathy for you is real, and substantial.  Very very glad you were released without anything serious on your report.  Thank God for the help that walked your way.

Seeing this reminded me of the time I stepped on a sting ray and nobody was around. I carried my board for 20 agonizing minutes to my van as the poison spread in my foot. Then I drove home screaming like an injured zoo animal. Once home, I jetted to the bathtub and sat there for 3 hours.

One can sense the insecurity in people as soon as they boast how they have grown up in the area or they have surfed the area for 40 years, blah, blah blah,. as if that makes any difference.
It's planet earth, it doesn't matter where you are born, where you grew up and how many of the locals and their parents you've known over the decades. It's irrelevant.
I just got back from a trip to Panama and met another surfer on the plane home. Right away he was boasting about how he lives in San Clemente and surfs his local spot all the time. Who cares? I just wanted to talk about the fun waves in Panama but right away he had to ramble on about his home break. Too funny!

I surf away from the crowd but if the opportunity presents itself, and I catch a good wave in the pack, I just smile and ignore the haters.
One time a guy pulled my leash intentionally and warned me he’d do that every time. I told him that he should get a good lawyer because I would sue him for harassment and intentional infliction of emotional pain. He never bothered me again. There’s something to be said for being older and knowing a bit about civil rights that makes the brash young guys a bit nervous.

I'm 52 and could retire comfortably at 55. I fear retirement will lead to divorce as my my marriage works best when we are together only a few hours after work. When we are together 24/7, we find ridiculous reasons to bicker. Yes, dysfunctional it is, but that's my reality. Work is a great place for me to maintain relationships with people that I've known for 28 years and of course, to feel useful and needed.

Women don't like it when slave drones are no longer tied to the plow.  It registers offense to them that you aren't killing yourself dragging home provender.  Also, it is a lot easier to kiss her ass a couple of hours a week rather than 24/7.

 ;D ;D ;D
No truer words were spoken. A couple of hours is about all I can take.

I purchased a night light for my SUP, so as the days get shorter, I still plan to paddle after work.

Isn't this where the poor guy drowned in his kayak and his ex wife was found guilty of negligent homicide, because she allegedly sabotaged his rig? I was thinking that if the poor guy had a SUP, there is no way he would have drowned.
