I wish to start a thread where anyone with interesting information regarding foils can contribute. Although these disciplines are in their total infancy stage, I feel they have a potential future for growth. So whether it's downwind foil sup, downwind foil surf, or foil surfing a mushy break, let's see who is doing what, using what gear...

A great part of me would like to get off the "mass produced in Asia" boat and aquire something with more soul. Also wanting a greener product, I'm getting interested in custom wooden or bamboo sup boards. Who makes quality, natural material gear ?

by "they" i'm refering to the big wave riders of our sport. how big of a wave has been surfed so far ? i don't really care if it tubes, if it's steep, if it spills or whatever shape it has, all i'm curious about is what is the biggest size wave that has been paddle surfed. who did it and when ? how big do you think can be caught with sup ?

yup, another fin thread. i'm not very convinced with the stock fins, so i'm looking at a possible fin setup for my Starboard 7'11 which i should get within the next few days. so far i'm leaning toward FCS twin range with a trailer. something like FK-2 sides with a GS trailer or the M.R. TFX with trailer setup. has anyone tried these, could they work on the 7'11 ? i weigh around 155 and surf fairly weak and mushy waves. no demo possible here so i'm trying to get advice before buying. thanks a lot...

there was a time when wood paddles where all the rage (yes, just like there was a time when a 10' sup was a "radical shortboard"...). then they sort of faded into the sunset. i think that a good carbon paddle is way ahead of any wood for distance, race or downwind use. at the same time i do believe that a good wood build, such as a Malama is a very good option for surf use. so what happen, did they just fall out of style when the carbon fashion came into town ?

was looking at Meyerhoffer "peanut" shaped boards again last night. that shape and concept really appeals to me and i wonder how well it could work applied to sup boards. any opinions ?

do yourself a favor and read the latest post "Inspiration" in Dave Kalama's blog. besides all the other amazing info, you'll get to find out how he trained for last year's Molokai by doing 5 hour long paddles UPWIND, before turning around and heading back down ! and i thought i was the man for paddling into a 25-30 knot wind for 45 minutes...it got me thinking... anyway, amazing post. read it.

What short boards (below 9') does Naish have that are not shown on the site ? I'm looking for something like a shorter and wider style Hokua 9'. The site being rather incomplete it's hard to get info. Thanks...

as i'm fantasizing about returning to Maui this winter, i would really want to also make it to Kauai this time around. does anyone know of any cheap accomodation around Hanalei bay ? the cheaper the better and i don't mind at all roughing it. sleeping under a coconut tree would suit me just fine...

this is almost the same as another thread here but i wanted to make the discussion a little more specific. lets hear all your opinions, suggestions and experiences regarding using a Quickblade Kanaha all carbon vs a QB Elite racer for downwind. thanks in advance...

i'm about to order a Quickblade Kanaha carbon and would like some advice regarding the blade size. this paddle will be used mainly for downwind on boards 14' and longer. my weight is 165 lbs. would you recomend the 100 sq in or the 110 sq in blade ? i'll probably be getting one for surfing (wich will be shorter anyway) and will most likely go with the 100 for that. thanks for your input...

does anyone have any info on downwinders on Tahiti ? Tahiti is obviously not the best place for wind, however in the winter months they have the south east Maramu winds that could give some good conditions. any info would be great...

both of these Naish boards, the nalu 9'6 and the 9'0 look great and just the kind of board i'm looking for. my dillema is which of the two sizes to choose ? i'm light (around 163 lbs) but ride in usually weak, mushy and choppy wind waves. i would think that the 9'6 would be better suited to my usual water conditions and the 9'0 might better suit my weight. any input would be greatly apreciated...
