Downwind and Racing / M2O - 2016

The biggest ocean paddle race in the world, Molokai to Oahu is this Sunday. Does anyone know what kind of coverage we will have to track the athletes? In years past we had GPS tracking and text updates, but I’ve seen a couple of races this year with live video feed. Any other information you can share like weather forecast, boards, athletes, pictures,,, I’ve always enjoyed following this race and this year it’s extra special with one of our local (South Florida) paddlers attempting it solo.

Gear Talk / Naish 2017 Javelin Maliko?

This is from the Victoria Cup in Japan. I’ve paddled the Maliko and it’s an awesome board. Its construction is excellent and also one of my favorite boards I have paddled. I was wondering if anyone has more info on what looks like the 2017 model.

Downwind and Racing / Downwind in Biscayne Bay South Florida

This was a 10 mile downwind in Biscayne Bay in South Florida. Downwinds in the bay are usually messy with swells coming from different angles. Wind speed was a constant 25 knots, gusting to 30 knots ENE. I was on a Focus Bluefin 12’6” x 27 and my teammate was on a Naish Maliko 14 x 26.

Technique / Board Trim

How do you fine tune were to stand to get the best trim on the board? I know the tail should be just skimming on top of the water, but how about the nose? Is there a way to figure out where the sweet spot is or if the board is not right for you without the help of someone?
