Technique / Face right - paddle left

I'm struggling to progress in the surf and am wondering if it has anything to do with my setup. My stance is facing to the right. But my strong paddling side is on my left. I feel like I'm contorting myself when paddling. I do try to work on paddling to my right but the left is so much more natural...I canoe to the left and was a former raft guide and paddled to the left.

Is this a problem that could be hindering me? Or is it something that's common with Surf SUPers?

Gear Talk / Too big?

Just bought a surf SUP at 9' 11". It's a bit wider too. Boardworks mini mod. I'm a small guy at 155 lbs and 5'9. I haven't used the board yet and am debating if I should return it for something slightly smaller (not going below 9). I'm new to the sport but am confident I can pick it up quick as I'm a waterman. Before I use it and ding it up, do you think it's an ok size? Will I be able to have fun with it and make turns and progress at my weight? Thanks
