A toast, to our brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Their selfless sacrifice inspires me to find joy in the difficult days, to paddle out when the surf is raging, to look for the good in every person and to genuinely appreciate the beauty in every day.

Karl has been good to us here in Central FL. Up to should high standouts, very clean, with no wind in the mornings. Dawn patrol has been fantastic. Lots of Mullet in the water being chased by sharks and Tarpon have made things rather interesting. Hoping for one more good morning of clean lines.

I think I have some good GoPro footage, but Friday's file is trapped on my crashed hard drive and today's are trapped in the camera with nowhere to go. Off to the store tomorrow afternoon to upgrade my electronics. Until then, here's all that I can share.

Random / Laptop Advice

My laptop has given up the ghost.

Can any of you computer savvy SUPers recommendations on a replacement?

I'm not a gamer, but do edit GoPro videos. I rarely watch movies on the computer, but do on occasion particularly paired up with the outdoor HD projector.

My girls are all Apple disciples. I'm fairly embedded with Google / android, so I'll probably stay with Windows.

Surfline is upping their game:

The new Magic Seaweed app is much improved as well.

Still pays to go and see for yourself when possible.

Chest high with occasional shoulder high sets during this morning's dawn patrol.

Getting a little deep now, but still a few standouts.

Rode the 10" Foote this morning and it treated me well. Will probably grab the short board for tomorrow's session.

Hope this swell makes its way to your break...Peace

Summer's coming, but we had a pretty good session Thursday.

Caught a total of 18 rides on video and pared it down to these.

Sessions / First Video Attempt

My first video attempt. Waist to chest high and clean conditions plus a little of the local scenery.

Riding the 8 - 8 Stu Sharpe.

Comments / suggestions welcome.

Gear Talk / Fin Setup
« on: April 13, 2016, 06:45:16 AM »
We've had clean conditions lately, which means I've spent a lot more time on the 8"8" board. I typically surf that board with a quad fin setup, which works great in chest high + waves. It's a bit sluggish in smaller surf so today I tried a twin fin setup. The twin setup was great on the wave, but difficult paddle and get into waves due to excessive movement and a bit of instability.

Not sure if I just need more time / practice with the twin setup of if I should get a stubby center fin to help the board track / paddle better.

Would appreciate any insights.

Paul

1. Sunrises, of course
2. Dolphins playing in the waves
3. Less wind (normally)
4. Solitude
5. No swimmers
6. On a big day, I'm finishing up when most others arrive

SUP General / Font Size

Font size on the Zone home page is fine, but recently all other pages, including this one has very small, almost unreadable font.

Anyone know how to correct this, other than finding my reading glasses?

Greetings from the Space Coast,

Woke early this morning and the report wasn't too promising. Three to four feet with wind out of the NNW. Swellinfo had the morning colored red. Should I just stay in bed?

I decided to give it try. Went to grab the shorty and I'd left it out in the overnight rain, couldn't find my shoes, dropped my phone on the floor which woke my wife >:(. Finally got down the the beach and the Korean food that we had last night started talking to me, so I drove back home to take care of that issue.

Back to the beach as the sun was rising. Other surfers stopped, looked and left pretty quickly. From the deck, it looked pretty sloppy, but I decided at the worst, it would be a good workout so I went for it.

Paddled out and it was all mine no one else in water. At first, I thought I was in for a butt kicking, but when I climbed up onto my 10' Foote, she felt good and we handled the chop well. Hey, I thought, this is exactly why I got this board and its doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Thanks Bill.

The period was really short. I made my first drop only to surf into the back of the previous wave. No problem, I got this. The second drop was good, the third was better and I proceeded to have a great session.

I like to think that mother ocean was a bit offended by everyone spurning her this morning. Just maybe, since I took a chance with her, she rewarded me with a fine morning. Then again maybe I was just lucky today. Either way I'll take it.

Have fun,

Paul

Training, Diet, and Fitness / NUTRiBULLET
« on: January 01, 2016, 07:26:49 AM »
Happy New Year everyone!

My wife bought me a NUTRiBULLET for Christmas and I'm loving it.

Before bed, I load the container with fruit, yogurt, spinach, protein powder, Cranberry juice and whatever else is in the fridge. Before I hit the dawn patrol I add ice and blend it for about 30 seconds. Makes a great tasting, nutritious breakfast that gets me through the morning session with energy to spare. Cleanup is very easy, which is the bane of the multi-part blender.

Not sure what it cost, but I recommend giving it a try.

Hope everyone has a great 2016.

Paul

Sessions / First Session, New Home
« on: December 24, 2015, 02:33:54 PM »
My family and I just completed our move from SC to Satellite Beach FL.

Got my first session in this morning at Hightower Beach Park, which is a couple of blocks from the house.

It was a little bumpy and the tide was high, but I snagged a few nice ones before heading home for some last minute shopping. Only one other surfer in the water and he was on a SUP  :).

If any other zoners are in the area, would love to hook up at some point to have some fun.

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season.

Thanks for all of the great advice and informative posts. This is a great forum. I have learned a lot from all of you over the last year.

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays / Semper Fidelis / Mahalo,

Paul
