Training, Diet, and Fitness / TENS machine

I'm shocked.....a little PDX humor to start a thread is always good..... ;)

Seriously though....I'm very surprised at how effective this thing is for me. My wife bought it for me....found it in a clearance rack and put it in my stocking last Christmas. I hadn't expressed any interest she just happened to see it and grabbed it thinking it might help my back pain. I was very skeptical and didn't even try it until a couple weeks ago when my back was tweaking. I stuck it on either side of my spine on my lower back and cranked it up...sucker hurts a little at 1st then just turns into a buzzing feeling after a few minutes. I was working at home that day and used it a couple times for 1/2 hour or so. It wasn't until later that day that I realized my back felt great...no pain at all. Since then I've used it a couple more times with the same effect. My back is tweaking a bit today which made me think of it. I'll be zapping it again tonight. Worth a shot for those that have pain issues.

Gear Talk / Fat bike trailer
« on: March 20, 2017, 11:27:28 AM »
I haven't even built my bike yet but I know I'm going to want a trailer....saw this on magic seaweed. I kind of think two wheels will be better for my needs but this looks like a great idea for the beach.

Random / Dangerous Phish
« on: March 13, 2017, 04:44:30 PM »
I'm far more security conscious on my email than the average person. Except for the Nigerian Prince that is soon sending me an annuity I look at everything very closely...I just received a phish that was very convincing looking telling me someone was attempting to change my gmail account. It used some other personal info that is easy to find about me in combination to create a gmail address, very convincingly too,  to which someone was purportedly trying to gain access. I never created the account. I also went to the Google account I do have to check security notifications. No activity there. One of the most convincing phishes I've seen. Nothing looked suspicious but the one thing......."if this is not your Google account...click here to disconnect"

Random / A Project for Pono
« on: March 07, 2017, 04:14:37 PM »
My daughter found a sign....don't think it's old but just made to look it...at an antique store in New Bedford. I got it for Christmas. I installed some battery powered LEDs inside it and mounted it on what could pass for driftwood (demoed my old deck).. :). There are LEDs behind the wood as well. I plan on hanging it on the wall in my shop/garage.
Then I was thinking...I'm pretty sure Pono could hook me up with a controller that would make it flash when the surf forecast is good at my local and have the second set in the back go off when it's actually happening. Magic Seaweed has an API....8) ;D

So what up bro?

Sessions / Elixir of youth
« on: February 19, 2017, 05:58:08 PM »
I finally got wet today. 3 hour session in some sloppy waves in RI...a few fun rides but mostly just a workout in the whitewater and chop. I feel great tonight....clear head, nice burn in the right muscles.....in a good mood.....amazing what a few hours on the water can do.

Random / So stoked...bought a new house
« on: February 16, 2017, 10:49:55 AM »
And it's just a couple miles to a beach in either direction...... ;D. I'll be driving past the beach  I call my local break at least a couple of times/day so I'll soon understand when and why it breaks (very fickle and rarely breaks but when it does its all time) Time to get going on my electric bike build. This is going to change my water time immensely....I'm pumped.

Big 2 car garage with a nice workbench already there...can't wait to setup a decent shop. Plenty of room for board storage. Really, really well maintained ranch that's move in ready, we plan on doing over one small bathroom and maybe a little landscaping and that's it...probably add solar and build a greenhouse/conservatory too. We should be moving in around the end of April....zoner house party! And if I can talk to boss into it (not hard) we may do the CCBC pre-party here. Restart the tradition of the 1st year carb loading spaghetti dinner....minus the 4 bottles of wine.... :)

General Discussion / Is it me?
« on: February 14, 2017, 07:52:57 PM »
Do I smell funny or something....or is it some karmic thing that i have to balance before I get some decent waves. I've been either sick, injured, or both all fall and winter. Haven't gotten wet in months (as you can probably tell from the Trump and shitshow threads). The pictures of pumping surf all over New England have been driving me nuts. I think I'm finally able to get out this weekend....everything is working at the moment anyway. So what does the forecast show....waves all week...slowly getting smaller until they disappear completely on the weekend....... ::)

Ask creek....he'll tell you...I show up and the waves die....... :P >:(

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Stoked for Barbados
« on: February 14, 2017, 09:55:41 AM »
A month to go before we head down there. Can't wait....I reached out to Brian Talma about getting a board similar to my Foote for the week...hoping they'll have a Mana 10-0 available. I might try and surf the 1st day in front of his shop so I can try a mix of boards and then rent what I like best. Checking out some of the other shops as well as a backup. Some decent breaks within paddling distance of the resort and I'm going to go up north for a day if the swell is on. So pumped.

LPB will appreciate this place. I'm thinking of building my daughter a live edge dining room table. Slabs galore...http://www.berkshireproducts.com/index.php

I'm thinking about getting a discounted slab with some checking then installing butterflies. Infill with epoxy and epoxy bar top finish..

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Gout
« on: January 27, 2017, 08:29:24 AM »
On top of everything else now I have gout..... >:(

I took my birthday off work on Tuesday....was planning on some victory at sea paddling in the nor'easter...woke up and went to get out of bed and couldn't stand...the pain that shot through my foot was mind numbing. Thought maybe I had sprained/strained my big toe somehow dancing like a fool on the weekend. It got worse as the day went on...red, swollen very sore to the touch, tough to walk. My daughter (nurse) immediately said gout...got it checked and she's right (as usual, kid is good). So I've been sidelined from doing much since. Seems to be calming down and ibuprofen is finally working some. One good thing...it underlines my need to change my diet and take better care of myself. Can't go paleo...makes gout worse potentially. I am cutting out sugar and will limit purine rich foods....I'm thinking a meditteranean diet basically with some mods to limit purine. Hoping it also helps with other issues I have with inflammation. What a pain in the ....foot..... :P

12oz at a time preferably. Our great to the nth power grandfather (John Jenney) was very likely one of the 1st people to brew beer in America....now THAT is a legacy to be proud of. He came over in 1623, was a miller and brewer, and started the 1st successful grist mill in the country. So first round is on you folks when we meet..... :)

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Costa Rica in March
« on: January 19, 2017, 11:39:09 AM »
My wife and I have been dragging our feet on what to do for our 35th wedding anniversary...it was over a year ago... :P. Finally decided on Costa Rica this March. She would like to go all-inclusive and I'm not opposed to it but the one she's looking at.. Dreams Las Mareas is in the middle of nowhere. It looks like they may have boards but it's doubtful I'd be that satisfied with what's there. I'm thinking more of heading down around Tamarindo to make board rental easier. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.
