I'm a decent wakeboarder, so I probably have the blind instincts. But I'm hoping to pick up the basics pretty fast. And I can throw up a sail and point the nose in a good general direction.
Starboard has two lines of 2015 iWindSUPs, the "Zen" and "Deluxe". The Zen is thinner at 4.75" but does away with the daggerboard in favor of a centerfin. It seems this line of boards are their "paddleboard centric" models while the 6" deluxe w/ daggerboard are more windsurf centric.
I'd like something that about 50/50. But as I'd also like to use this as a dinghy, it seems smart to cover the the paddleboard bases. So long as the board has what it needs to sail upwind decently well I think I'd be happy.
I'm still not sure, but in the end it might be the Starboard 12' x 33" Zen model. I'd be sacrificing a bit of rigidity in not going with the thicker deluxe version, but it seems like a quality board to the point where this wouldn't matter all that much. Other than the Naish 12' Crossover which would seem to have even less rigidity @ 14psi, the shape of the 12' x 33" Zen seems perfect for what I'm looking for. Glide but with good stability and carrying capacity.

The Red Paddle 10.8 and the Fanatic 12 both look like really good boards, but I notice they don't have any centralized fin attachments for upwind sailing performance? I'd like to think I'd be sailing more, but as a sailor I know how that often goes..a lot of motoring (paddling) if you want to actually get somewhere.
I do like the design of the Red Paddle otherwise, even if it is a bit shorter. I've crossed the Naish 12' off the list because of the 14psi max, but otherwise that would probably be the one. They seem to have a great reputation both for sailing performance and paddling. Is it their quest to keep the board as light as possible which has made them have to give up some rigidity in the design?
The Starboard 12' is still up there but I've heard a lot of negativity here and elsewhere about the daggerboard design. I see it's retractable, but is the reason it's less desireable for paddling because even when retracted the design creates more drag? More of PITA the assemble? I suppose I could go with the thinner Zen version, but unsure if the 4.75 thickness and 18psi would be too flimsy for me.
Lot of options! Always a compromise..
Thanks again

Thanks for the advise. The more I look into it, the more an all arounder seems like it might be a more practical option, especially if the added width is going to make moving with the dog a lot easier. And the shorter stouter boards certainly look more fun to windsurf. How much more difficult would it be to make a long-distance trek in something like the JP allaroundair ws 10.2 x 34"? Wouldn't the 11.4 x 30" cruisair be similar to the Naish 11' crossover in terms of stability? http://jp-australia.com/2015/sup/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/07/2015-SUP-Rangeofuse.pdf

Well whodang and a couple dammits, I just came across this guy: http://www.naishsurfing.com/product/crossover-air-120/So right now, if I were to assume, my two best options are the Naish 12' x 34" crossover or the starboard 12' x 33" deluxe.

Hey yall, been cruising through the forums here and thought I'd ask for some specific advise. Home is a little sailboat which I'm taking down to the islands this fall and Im the market for an inflatable WindSUP. I've been researching Starboard, Naish, JP, etc and am leaning toward a Starboard. This will be a big investment onboard, so I'm willing to splurge for whatever would be best. I'm inexperienced but young/athletic. Weight 80kgs and the dog is 35kgs. So the Naish Crossover, awesome though it looks, is kinda off the list. http://www.isthmussailboards.com/2014-Naish-Crossover-Air-110-Inflatable/productinfo/NA14MAWS/http://star-board-sup.com/2015/overview-windsup/http://jp-australia.com/2015/sup/products/inflatable-boards/cruisair/I know there are compromises in choosing a SUP for touring and also something that would be OK to windsurf, but here's what I'm hoping to get from the little dude (in order of importance): -good paddler for trekking with the dog in ocean swells -good upwind performance -sailing speed in light to medium winds (as versatile a sail plan as possible) -stability and volume for carrying supplies in calm anchorages -something fun for visiting crew to play around with Right now, the WindSUP Inflatable 12' x 33" Deluxe seems like a pretty good compromise for what I'm hoping to do with it, but I'd be grateful for feedback. I know I'm asking for a lot. Not expecting it to excel in any one area, although trekkability with the dog is important. Also, I plan on demoing some boards when I get down to South Florida, but where I'm at currently in SC that's not possible. Many thanks for your sage advice!! Ryan s/v Soma
