Title: Sunny Downbreezer in the dugout - Vid
Post by: Off-Shore on March 03, 2017, 06:01:52 PM
Sometimes everything comes together and conditions are perfect for a morning downbreeze paddle on the Ace..

And then you fall in for no apparent reason.. ;D

Nice video. The wind didn't seem too bad, but it sure was being picked up by the microphone.

Thanks for sharing your DW video.

I like the text telling a story as you go along - not just a downwinder but a travelogue too :D

You were just too hot and subconsciously needed a refreshing dip.

Fall more often and you’ll get better at getting back into your flower pot.

What’s the difference between a beginner and an expert telemarker? The expert gets back up a lot quicker. (Which includes getting back up to speed)

Ah, the Ace downwind experience I know so well... especially since mine is 2" narrower than yours, and my balance skills are distinctly under par. Relax for one moment and you are in the drink, banging your shins on the upper rails when getting back in (or falling out). It does get a little better with time on the board. But I've had to admit defeat with my Ace: I won't use it for anything other than downbreezing. I just don't have the physical abilities to enjoy it in anything else. Shame, because for about 20 minutes in mild stuff I can make it go like stink. And then I've had enough and want to go home :)

Very nice vid. What is your camera mount attached to on your waist?

Thanks for all your comments. This is a great little run and only 5mins from where I live. You will see that the dismount on the Ace is fine if it is on the side that the rail sinks. If you happen to fall the other way (submerge left rail and fall right for instance) that is when bruising occurs...

The system I use to film this is the Sail Systems 3rd person mount made in Scandinavia.. This is paired with a GoPro Hero 5 with image stabilisation "ON".

It's a bit cumbersome to get used to and definitely not comfortable at all for any length of time. But IMHO it gives good footage particularly falling off... ;D
