Title: 24 hour world record attempt in progress now: SB Sprint 17'6
Post by: FloridaWindSUP on February 10, 2017, 03:49:57 PM
As I type this my friend Robert Norman from Inverness, Florida is at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota trying to break the 24 hour distance record on a Starboard Sprint 17'6x23. I'm about to drive up there to camp out and give him some moral support. Might do a lap or two with him during the night since there will be a nice full moon. Assuming all goes well he should finish around noon EST Saturday. Updates will be on his facebook page.

Looks like he did it- Unofficial distance of 179.something km is just slightly further than Seychelle Hattingh's 178 km. At the end his nose was bleeding and he looked like hell with blood all over his rashguard. He still had 15 minutes left at the end of his last lap and I was telling him to keep paddling for one more partial lap to seal the deal, but he was like, "I need to get OFF this board NOW." It was fun paddling some laps with him, but I was glad to get into my cozy sleeping bag while he had to keep suffering all night. Tough dude.

Yes, and Seychelle did it on a 14' board.
