Post by: dk78 on February 08, 2017, 09:52:48 AM
Finally the last few days we had waves here in Greece and I had some fun on my 10’ Laird.

BRAVO!!!!  Totally enjoyed that.  Love the back-step crosswalk to initiate turn!!!  VERY stylish!!!!  Also love the "paddle skimming the wave top".

GREAT video!!  Thanks for sharing.  Made my afternoon Man in Black!

Great video. I also liked the sound track. If I'm not mistaken, a Neil Young tune sung by Johnny Cash. Thanks for sharing your video.

BTW; your 10' Laird, if you don't mind me asking, how wide is it?

Nice video.  I also like the sound track and the cross stepping,
back cross-step turn, etc.

I think that is the Surftech.
About how much do you weigh?
Sometimes I think I might get a 10 footer...
of course, I also think maybe I'll get an 11 footer.
I weight 195 pounds, and
have the 10'6" which I do really like.

Great video and fun waves. Boy, every place is better than Florida these days, even Greece! (We've had a bad run lately.) How often do you get waves?
I have a 10-foot Laird as well, the 28.5-inch wide model. Hard to imagine a board that's more fun in small waves.

Thank you all for the comments. I weight 176lbs and this is the Surftech Laird 10’x28.5” model. In winter time we have waves quite often but this year it is not very good here too. We hope we have some good waves soon.

9'6"-10 foot by 27-29 wide......PERFECT combo for speed/power/maneuverability....literally catch anything

Thanks for stating the width of your Laird. The reason I asked is because I'm seriously thinking of purchasing another yak in a 10'6" length, but since I want to use it mostly for flat water cruising, I want it to be 30". After looking at your video with you surfing on it, I was guessing your Laird was less than 30" and I was correct.

NW,

my Laird is 10'6" and 29.75" wide, it is also a Pearson Surftech.
It surfs very well.
Its my big, fast, storm-surf board.
Early in, up to double overhead plus.
Can't get toes over, but can get pretty close to a foot from the nose, parallel stance.
(well, parallel stance, probably usually 2 feet back)
Very fun! great cutbacks and all of that too.
(I will add that even at 29.75" wide, some people still think it is pretty tippy
- pin tail - good for turning, not so much for stability.)

For smaller and/or slower surf, I used my Black & Blue -
OK in big waves, but I get closed out much more often -
the soft rails at the back definitely limit its top end
(compared to the Laird which has sharp rails in the tail),
but I can get toes over (occasionally) and further up, pretty much all the time.
It is 31" wide. and a bit more stable.
