Title: Going SUB 100L...wish me luck!
Post by: GOTWAVZ on December 31, 2016, 09:24:36 AM
Put in order for sub 100 L board (99.9L), which at my 198 LBS should keep things interesting.  I've been working down 2-5 Liters every time, last one was 105 L and was fine and I was 225 Lbs so should be ok, now that I dropped 27 Lbs.

Going to try the Hypto Krypto shape. 7'-8" x 28" x 4.2"

Sounds like you dropped more body weight than you did board volume. You should be just fine. Nice looking board too.

Sweet! I like your widths @ 12" off each end. Very nice and manageable. Those numbers have kind of become my favorites...thereabouts. And I think they work well for the mere mortal SUS crowd. For me it's not so much the width at the middle, but at the ends that counts on the shorter boards. Please, post updates and pics!

Can you post images of your center and nose slices?

real interested to see how this turns out- I have heard nothing but good thing about the HK shape - at least for prone boards.

Thats low liters for 198 lbs- Assuming you aren't adding winter gear as well?

For those considering this, there's a hypto crypto SUP in the Shape3D warehouse online if you want a file to start from.

Anxious to see how these ride. Seems like they'd be great on a good wave.

It sure looks nice, especially with the yellow stomp pad.  Even if it's too small for you, you will still look really cool carrying it out to the water.  Ha.  You're a charger, I'm sure you can handle it.

Cool, looks great.

Interested in how you like the hexatraction.

Great to see someone going smaller.  The performance difference is worth it.

So, finally got out this am...3-4+ chest high, glassy about 1000 Yards North of Huntington Beach Pier.

Was nervous due to low volume and also the Hextraction.

Initial reaction was it was that the flotation was definitely lacking but once i stood up on it i felt comfortable and after a few paddle strokes it was business as usual.  It wasn't until about an hour and a half into it that i fell a few times while standing waiting for waves. Maybe i was getting tired.

As far as paddling into waves, the board was great getting up on a plane and driving down the line.  I spun it on the first wave I saw and pumped down the line got a couple of lip smacks and was instantly stoked.

I noticed that the board felt really connected to my feet, maybe because of the lack of a deck pad. I had a couple of floaters and the board seemed stuck to my feet. I was stoked.

The only negative was when I was belly/prone paddling out the paddle seemed to be sliding from right to left side on my board as i got hit with whitewater.  There is zero traction for the paddle except my fat belly/wetsuit material.

At one point I kneeled and was quickly reminded by the pain/roughness in my feet that there was no comfy deck pad.

So far Im completely stoked. I cant wait to get it in some real waves.

The board looks great.  I love the outline--reminds me of a McCoy Nugget (which some love and some hate, but I loved mine). Looking forward to hearing more as you get more time on it.

Interesting assessment on the hexatraction.  I'm planning on using it exclusively on my new longboard SUP.  I do prone paddle sometimes with my paddle tucked--sounds like I may be in for a bit of a challenge there.
