I am looking to trade an old kayak for an SUP with a guy on CL. He sent some pics and the bottom deck worries me. i havent seen it in person yet so only relying on pics. There is wax in the one pic that has spots all over it. Any thoughts?

Those would not be show-stoppers for me if the rest of the deal was good.
I am not a 'spit and polish' person, more like 'deburr and implement'.
Get the wax off, sand, spray a couple coats of rattle can clear, enjoy.

PS Did you ever start your own (from the other thread)?

It looks like water is getting at the pine in that top picture which will get worse. It will have to be patched.

I definitely plan of some ding repair and maintenance on this one. It had a deck repair and needs a new traction pad as well. But for a beater board thats not costing me anything i figured a project is something i can handle. I just dont want to take on a cancerous glass job. The guy said hes had it for a year and the flaking hasnt progressed at all. I never use the kayak and i inherited from a friend so might as well. Anyone ever heard of "Justin Guernsey" shapes? I cant find anything on it.
Jrandy... i have not been able to get around to starting my own yet due to a house addition that we just finished. That will be for 2017 hopefully and i want to start small like everyone recommended. Maybe even a hand plane out of one of my old busted boards outback.
