Title: Maui Aloha Classic
Post by: Weasels wake on November 04, 2016, 06:59:55 PM
Don't know if anyone is interested, but this has been streaming live online since it started a few days ago.
Currently in a holding patter due to the lack of wind, but the sets are mast & 1/2 high.  Incredible drone work being utilized, I think they are setting new standards with that.  Vids available when the live ain't happening.

Awesome pics. These guys are just great watermen, and an inspiration to all the young kids I know who are into one of the disciplines they master. This is what inspires them to try other watersports.

The guys should be hitting the water again today around 11 AM Maui time.

Robbie Naish to himself, "don't look at the rocks, don't look at the rocks!".
For more killer pics of the action~

Big props to Bernd getting to the finals and Kai to the semis of the single (I thought Kai should have advanced to the final as well). Very impressive for watermen who are more SUP focused to go out there and absolutely rip in big gnarly Hookipa.

Also have to say the live drone footage has also been incredible. When we get a live HD broadcast it will be mind blowing.

From the PWA site about yesterday (Sat.)~

Over the course of a simply epic day of action, there were so many outstanding performances it's almost impossible to list them all.

However, having said that Kai Lenny (Naish / Naish Sails / MFC) stole the show with the performance of the day. Lenny is the complete waterman and he drew upon all of his local knowledge and supreme talent to produce a simply outstanding heat — with local Rob Funk classing Lenny’s performance in Heat 42 as the best he’s ever seen at Ho’okipa, which saw Lenny earn the first 10. The 24-year-old was in such fine form that in just 10 minutes he was able to record the highest scoring heat of the day — 18.88 points — and had he not fallen on a final aerial on one of his waves he could’ve very well been awarded a perfect heat.

It's great to have a full live coverage, much more interesting than a edited version. Sadly conditions aren't that good despite nice waves. In light winds, rider weight is essential. at 63 kg/140 lbs, K Lenny did a great performance.

Drone POV highlights with some awesome music, full screen is best.  If you go the page of the vid poster, he's got another nice one of Ashley Baxter from about a year ago, and some more windsurfing.

That was fun to watch. It's nice to have that throttle to get some big hang time.

Wow.  The quality of that footage. A few of those clips are perfection.

^ +1. Awesome footage and great editing. It really is good to see drone footage in windy conditions like these.

The water exposure and definition is fantastic.  Epic technology.
