Wow, lovely shots. Love that bottom turn / top turn, amazed you can push so hard without straps. Which break is that?

Those shots were taken a Davenport, just north of Santa Cruz. The strapless thing is interesting, feels really weird at first, but once you start to think about surfing the board like a SUP and not a windsurfer it's all good, just have to keep moving the feet around

Speeed added to wishlist. So glad I still have all my windsurf rigs.
Kiting I've gone strapless, skiing I've gone as strapless as it gets (tele), so keen on windsurfing strapless again.

I rode my strapped board last year in Hood River after a few years of riding my wind SUPs strapless and it felt very weird at first. Of course I remembered quickly the words of my first windsurfing Instructor--Al West (there's a name to conjure with): When ya's get into the horness, it's the first push, but when ya's get inta the straps ya really hits the exhilarator."

No, it won't really plane unless on a wave, too much tail rocker. I'm only riding the SUP in sub planing conditions anyway so it doesn't really matter to me.

WindSUP surfing isn't a planning activity It's a wave ridding alternative in lightwind/choppy conditions If it is windy (Over 15mph)
I'd get on a wave ridding (jumping w/straps) wind or Kitesurfing board

I would add that a windSUP, or sailboard for that matter, with a faster rocker line and efficient bottom contours, is going to be able to catch waves earlier...and, easier than just shlogging along pushing and plowing through the water, as the overriding majority of windSUPs that I have been on have a propensity to do...furthermore, the sport of windSUP is not just relegated to the coastal zones with waves...we have folks that live in places like the Great Lakes, sound side North Carolina, and Austin, Texas enjoying sailing...and, paddling our Hammer windSUPs as well...
We built one for Andy out in North Carolina and he reports the same thing...
It planes up easily and stays upwind easily, plenty of volume and stability to tack, and has the lovely SUP quality of making it almost impossible to totally blow a jibe.

It also looks like you are getting some front-side air off the lip.
Were you worried at all about damaging the board?
I've heard that SUPs are not really built for landings (the way windsurfing boards are), or do they just mean much larger jumps?

I've only taken it out windsurfing a few times, but the decks on Sunova boards are pretty durable so I'm not worried about the deck, more worried about the mast bashing the nose in on a fall.
Where a typical custom board will develop foot divots after 5-10 sessions, all my Sunovas are like new on the decks. I wouldn't recommend proper wave jumps though, so yes, it's true that most SUPs are not built for hard landings and continuous pounding like a windsurfer is.

Not all custom boards are "typical"...
We reinforce our custom windSUPs with extra carbon patches...deck...nose...tail...
I've been riding my custom Hammer windSUP since September of 2014 and it has no foot divots...and, it's holding up nicely...
