weird. Someone's idea of a vacuum breaker? A way to get the nose released when it gets planted under water? Bud vase? Shot glass holder?

None of the above.... Keep guessing.
-
That's where you play it like a flute.
-
I would guess hawse-pipe or vertical bow thruster. It would make for convenient single peg hanging storage...
-
You're getting closer....
-
Maybe move this thread to "Best way to lock up a board".
-
Even closer... Here's a clue. There is an identical hole in the tail..
-
a new sport? SUP-train?
-
Two board to make a catamaran of sorts?
-
Posts for an outrigger?
-
No-one has nailed it yet... here are the boards in action..
-
Integrated racking points for transport?
-
Cam pole holes ;)
-
At this point, I think I'm fine to let the mystery be.
-
Maybe it's like a visual speedo..
The faster you go the higher the water gushes.. ;D
-
Put some lava rocks around it, you'd have a nice downwinding fountain.
-
Is there some water spurting out of the hole?
-
The owner loves the board so much that he wants to take his relationship with it to the next level?
-
Yugi was closest. Our local SUP Association was provided with 20 race boards. They requested that they be towable behind a boat in a chain and rather than handles or tow hooks be added to the front and back they decided these holes would be a good idea like those integral handles in plastic sit on kayaks..
Contrary to expectation, when paddling, that air would pass from the top of the board to the underside, when you get up to speed the exact opposite happens at the front hole and a small fountain appears.
So plugs are being made...
-
Hopefully the appropriate party will be chastised for making such a big bunghole... and a bungle.
-
Wow, that's goofy. The bast way to put a tow on a SUP is a leash plug under the nose. The early starboards had them

I am sure it looked like it made perfect sense on the drawings. It'll be interesting to see how they plug them. Actually one of the paddlers found that the Yakult bottle fits perfectly!

…
If you windsurfed in the Windsurfer days you’d know that.

I don't see any nose holes in those boards.
-
Sounds like the old joke about the dude going to hell find himself surrounded by beautiful women and every bottle of alcohol imaginable, only to find all the bottles have holes in the bottom...
-
I forgot about this post. The holes in the noses and tails of these boards were designed for towing them... But the front one blows like a sperm whale when you ride them...
