Title: Lake Ontario SUP/Paddleboard Crossing
Post by: SpecialK on September 17, 2014, 06:08:02 AM
For your interest... most likely the first prone crossing of Lake Ontario, and 3rd SUP crossing. At minimum, we're setting the bar at sub-6 hrs for others to beat. The route is just under 50 km (31 miles). Go ahead and call it the Canadian equivalent of M20 (with less swell), Chattajack (less scenery) and Catalina (less history). Joking aside, this is a big and exposed paddle, and Great Lakes have been known to sink ships...

Sweet guys!  Congratulations!  Your accomplishment is not to be minimized.  Well done on your times!  I live on the eastern shore of Lake MI and most regularly paddle Lakes MI, Huron and Superior.  Unfortunately I have not spent much time on Eerie or Ontario.  None of the five Great Lakes are to be trifled with.  I'll share your link with some of my serious paddling friends.  the great lakes are large enough to have several harcdcore paddling and surfing communities all going after it and not necessarily aware of each other.  Thanks a lot for posting.  I'm stoked for this!

Checking back here a year later, with one more crossing in the books. This year was a bit slower but a lot more interesting with a building SE swell.

Here's a quick report:

You never know what you're going to get out there on the lake! And it's getting more interesting now too given that we have a benchmark time to chase.

Nice one again.

Awesome to see this. There is nothing like setting a goal to get from A to B and making it happen on a SUP.

Hey, thanks Muskoka - we are stoked about next year. The crossing is such a unique experience and we really want to share it with others. And we definitely need something of this magnitude in the northeast...

You're welcome SpecialK..    Its such a potentially cool and challenging event that I'm seriously considering it.  (This being someone who has sworn off of "competitive sports" for the last 15 years after a lifetime of various sports.. "I only do things thst are fun now..."  ;)).
