New Fins for 2016 Naish Glide 14X29
« on: April 06, 2017, 06:44:23 AM »
So I kind of chewed up the stock fin that came with the board because I tried to take it down a shallow river with deadfall and rocks just below the surface.  There were a ton of alligators on the banks and everytime I hit something I would go flying into the water.  Often times only feet away from a gator.  Not an experience I want again.

Anyway, I chewed up my stock 9.5 inch fin and I want to buy a couple of replacements that will add to the capability of this board.  I want one that would be good out in the ocean (Gulf of Mexico) and one that would be really good in kind of shallow inland waterways for speed and workouts.

Interested in any ideas on good fins for this board...

Thanks Much...

If you're paddling that close to alligators, I'd swap out the fin for a propeller  ;D
Infinity Blackfish 12’ 6” x 23”
ONE SUP Evo 12’ 6” x 24”
Infinity Whiplash 12' 6" x 24 1/2"
ONE SUP Evo 12’ 6” x 26”
Bark Competitor 12’ 6” x 29”
Red Paddle Explorer (Inflatable) 13' 2" x 30
Starboard Airline (Inflatable) 12’ 6” x 27

Take a look at the SIC weedless 8.3 and 7.0.

I took a belt sander to the stock fin on my Glide after I took some good size knicks out of it after hitting rocks a few times. I was able to keep the shape of the fin and took off close to an inch. Better options than the sander I used, but you can definitely sand down the stock fin if it's not too badly damaged.

for the river, look into Larry Allison River Keel. good base and low profile
at 6"-6.5". I got it specifically for the reasons you mentioned. It is made
out of his HDM material so it's very durable unlike usual fins.

For the ocean, you have few choices, one to look at is Larry Allison
Dolphin keel. it is also somewhat shallow at 7.5" but has lot of area
at 57Sqi. if you have a lot of rocker in the tail you should look at
His Dolphin Pivot Keel, it is 9.5" with 56SSqi area.
Those are my 2 favorite open water fins.

All of those come in click-it version so it's a 5 second installation in or out.

Well, if you're paddling with alligators, it doesn't sound like stability is an issue so maybe consider a race fin.  If you go this route and like it report back because I'm thinking about this fin for my 14' Jav.
