It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

So the story behind this photo.  Last week I was biking past Jeff's shop and he says "Did you see that photo of me with all the guys?"  Yes I say.  "Well the only reason no one was paddling for that wave was because I went for the wave before it and everyone starts to paddle and I yell 'Hey what the hell are you guys doing someone is going to get hurt.' "  They all look at him like a crazy person, but, he is Jeff Clark.

So he says "The next wave I paddle for and they all stay clear . . . it was beautiful."

Last week I caught a few waves at Mavericks.  I changed my alias to "Tom on a SUP Brady"  Who could you hate more than Tom on a SUP.

On Sunday the waves were bigger than expected.  I wake up and drag my feet.  Another cup of coffee, re-run the forecast model.  Damn-it.  It's big. So I drag myself to Mavericks and resign myself to getting skunked.

I only had ~ 1 hour.  I was about to leave and paddled deeper to talk to Mark Sponsler.  Just after our conversation a wave comes and I realize I can catch it.  I paddle and I am in TOTALLY EASY.

I am paddling on my left side, I stumble with the paddle and switch my hands and switch my feet to regular foot (I am naturally goofy).  I get release and start to drop.  NO PROBLEM 100% in control BEST WAVE EVER.  Then the wave starts to grow.  IT goes UP.  Two ticks later it is STILL GOING UP.  This is where the video starts.

I bend my knees and remember Jeff's advice 'You have to commit, you have to want it.'   So I commit, and I want it.  Two ticks later and the wave grows, IT GOES UP.  WTF.  I am now conflicted and not sure I want the wave.  IT GOES UP.  I now want out but am not sure how to get out.  IT GOES UP.  Holy Schnockers . . . . I want to jump but I don't think I have a choice so I hold my line.

There were no prayers, there was no hope just a MYOPIC LOCK.  This is what it looked like from the shoulder.  Slow motion does justice to my thought process.

In the end I wanted to jump, but I didn't.  As I biked home I was mad at myself for jumping, but I didn't.

Video courtesy of Dom Padua.  He wanted $15 I gave him $50.

Since this is a thread about the singularity here was the perspective from the other side.  Thanks to Pedro Bala.

PS: Jeff Clark and Beasho are both Goofy Foot. But we play straight at Mavericks.

So nice.   To get a video of it, you're fortunate to get that.

On waves of consequence, once you decide to go, you go. Mentally you have to be positive to the point of delusional and totally commit. Any doubts in your head can lead to the slightest movement against the flow, polutute the positive mental picture, and lead to failure.

That's amazing, Beasho, congrats on the wave conquest.

I think my stream of consciousness would have come from a warm sensation in the seat of my wetsuit.

Sunday was certainly a big wave sleeper day around Sharks and Privates, they didn't predict it.

Great vid Beasho!  Starts off looking like a nice mellow roll-in on a big mushburger but quickly turns into something else entirely.  Way to stay committed and stick the drop!
