After watching this video, I think the surf foil is still better suited for "large swells" instead of surfing large waves. When Kai was surfing a few of those large waves, something just didn't "feel" right with me. I can't put my finger on it, but I've a got gut feeling which is nagging at me on this.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

Yeah - looks like the whole set-up has been tweaked a lot since Kai says - "you can pump the foil back out to sea".  Add a paddle and wind - and you should be able to easily foil DW on something like that.  That would probs work good for me because I am about his size.

Now if we just had some DW Naish reps around here - we could try that thing out.  Looks pretty fun.  A different kinda DW mind you.  No planing and a lot less muscle power required - and instead more balance and finesse.

That's ok - since we also just love boarding in deep bottomless pow.  And that kinda reminds of that feeling.  Just tip and go.  Mind you - must be steep as well.

I know designed for surfing -> but can see with some mods could also work for DW.  The other Kai vid posted for DW - seemed as though that set-up required a lot more HP and wind for him to stay up.  So yeah - we are probs about there.  Very nice.

Kai Lenny; game changer or apocalyptic wave catching demon?

You decide.

MFC just released their foil on Instagram. It sounds like it's made by Cobra. This is blowing up. Let's hope it drives prices down too.

That's sick, it makes my thighs burn just watching that, young legs required.
It takes a quiver to do that.

I watched a friend prone paddle a 7'6 Quatro SUP into swell at Swell city this week and get some nice long rides.  I am 100% sure that a strong paddler could do the same on this setup and soar-link-soar...

This is going to be great for clearing out those crowded California lineups. The downside is all the severed limbs and headless photographers are going to attract a lot of big fish.

That should take some of hate directed at sup and redirect it . If  proners think we are wave hogs they have only seen the tip of the iceberg.  Seems like you will be able to take every wave now as long as your energy level holds out.

Won't be long before flatwater races are divided between "Pump" and, yawn, "Classic" styles.

Oh My GAWD  :o  He is planing without a wave.

As Blackeye said "FLATWATER PLANING" or FLYING just by pumping

Game changer, SUP revolution all over again.  You just need a bump.

At 2:30 you see the SUP guy take a swipe to catch a wave and then give up and watch the new kid just glide by.

that looks very difficult to me - especially on the bigger waves - Mr Lenny looks very wobbly at times and if HE is wobbly then the normal man in the street has NO chance!

I do like the look of him surfing on next to nothing - now that impressed me. However....it would be nice to see that tried somewhere on the east coast of the UK on our swells.
