The second version of the Glide. I'm sure DJ will correct me, but the first version (27.25" wide I think) was something like 2009-2011 (this is off the top of my head so if the dates are crucial then look it up) and had a lot of nose rocker. This made it great for short period downwinding but people wanted more flat water versatility. So Harold Iggy reduced the rocker for the second version, circa 2012-3. It was never actually called the V2 (also 27.25" wide) that is just a nomenclature we've adopted to describe it. It is a great all-rounder and still one of the fastest production downwinders. It was a bit tippy though, and Iggy died, sadly, so V3 was made wider and more stable (29" wide) and a completely different design. V3 is still on sale now.

Two of my friends still use a V2 Glide and go very well indeed on it. It's probably the fastest DW board on flat water that you can buy. Pretty darned fast downwind too. In fact the performance of the board never fails to surprise me. It doesn't like messed-up conditions much though. The GX in particular is a good buy - it's usefully lighter than the GS.

Thanks!  So the 2014 Naish Glide 14 x 29 is version 3? If so, and you don't mind explaining it, what benefits does the v3 provide over the v2 design? What conditions make the v3 design worse than the v2 design?

That Naish 14' is perhaps the most discussed board line there is.  I would recommend doing a bit of searching and come back with some more specific questions.  There is a TON of information here and on other sites.

Just a quick example

The V2 are highly sought after on the Zone. Those that have them have established a minimum resale price at $5,000 U.S. If you are lucky enough to find an owner willing to part with it. Perhaps Iggy's last best shape. They will only increase in value.

I'd recommend you read the links that Digger gives. But briefly, yes, if it's 29" wide it's a V3. The V3 is more stable than the V2. It is also heavier. The GS construction V3 can only really be carried sizeable distances by strong people, those with a transport system, or those willing to go very slowly. The V3 is a more user-friendly board by far than the V2. Better behaved in messed up conditions and a good choice for bigger guys, or those who want stability or paddle in chop, if you want an all-conditions do-anything type board.

The V2 is also an all-conditions, do-anything type board, but it is much more technical. It's a more specialised board, really: a great choice for ocean paddlers who want to be fast downwind. It's generally faster than the V3 but more demanding. Heavy guys or those that paddle in messy chop might find themselves struggling for balance on the odd occasion. But boy it is quick downwind in lively conditions, and the rocker is great when it gets all-time.

We used to see DJ fall a couple of times in his downwind vids when he had the V2. Sadly, when he got the V3 we never got to see him fall any more. So check out his videos. PeterP on this forum also liked both the V2 and V3s and posted a lot of info about them, together with marvellous downwind videos of the V2 in action. So you could search for posts by these members.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses and the links!  I had read some of those posts.

It was while reading old posts about the Naish Glide 14 that I came across the term V2.  I'm 6'3" and 240 lbs/109 kg, and now I'm of the opinion that the 29" width of the V3 may be more appropriate for me.

Yep, that's what I'm looking for.   Although, I'm unsure how I will transport a board that long.  I have a truck with a long bed, which has a shell/topper over the bed. So I guess I would have to strap it on top?   Does that require racks?

Reading the old posts has raised another question: I'm wondering what the difference is between the  2014 and 2015 versions of the Naish Glide 14x29.  I'm unable to find any info on the 2015 version.  The graphics are different.  Any other differences?

The 14x29 Glide has been the same shape since it came out. It sounds like a good choice for you. Yes, you are probably going to need racks. The effort will be worth it.

That's definitely not a v1, It would be three feet further forward and you'd be able to see two feet of it in the windshield.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Definitely the V3 on my old Mazda. I remember the elf shoe rocker V1 Glide being a Gorge favourite here on the zone a few years back. Still a ton of tail and nose rocker on the V3 though and it's a hell of a do everything board. Too bad Naish didn't make more of the GX version. Pretty rare.

I bought a V1 the day my friend Mark Ribkoff stood on one sideways talking to me with his paddle out of the water. A swell picked up the tail, the board caught the wave and went fifty yards without a stroke. Fantastic for Hood River swell days that fit it, but probably the most single purpose board ever built. I'd even say single venue since it didn't work as well in swells anywhere else I tried it.

I lent it to my buddy Cameron Healy to do the BOP distance race one year and he came in dead last even though he's a light and strong paddler. He did finish, but he was definitely ready for a nap after that.

The V1 is an awesome board and was probably the first downwind specific board in Hong Kong. Here is a Downbreezer from last year when I borrowed it from its 3rd owner.
