Cool inventions
« on: October 07, 2015, 07:14:11 PM »
I think I found Caribe's replacement for his Quad on Bequia...at the 10.12  mark....and who doesn't want a Powerup 3.0.

quad ski has huge potential--but 45k is pricey--easy to see great utility for many circumstances

This is a game changer. Id hate to be selling cameras these days.  https://light.co

True optical zoom 30 to 150. Focusable in post process, 54 megapixels with inline lossless compression, wifi connect to stream. 4k video. Sheesh. 1200 bucks.

ok here's a question: will it be impossible to develop a system that presents an image in a form that corrects for flawed vision? so where i might need reading glasses to read something, the image is arranged such that, without reading glasses, it looks clear to me, despite my flawed vision??

Very impressive. I would love to see a real one in the flesh.

seems like it will work as advertised--the technology is totally doable--one of those that beg the question of why this wasnt thought of years ago

Post processing potential is nuts. The raw file contains focal length information for every lenth between the widest lens deployed and the narrowest. Essentially f stops become meaningless for depth of field. We're already used to exposure and color balance being tweakable, but now focus, tele, and depth will be too. Theoretically you could hane multiple elements at varied distances in focus with elements between out of focus. Some just needs to add that ability to the software.

The depth of field is amazing in some of the gallery pics on the website...almost seems like it gives you super vision. The potential for this seems almost limitless.

I'm reminded of the photos taken by the electronically controlled camera on precision tripods that sttch together thoudands od high def tele imagfes and present them as a zoomable single image. this does some of that and more in a single click.

Not yet....might actually be a problem. Water droplets would likely screw it up

I was thinking about what a phased array of 10,000 of these could do.... :)

Stoney that amphibious ATV is too cool.  That would be the perfect vehicle to take me from my front gate down the road and directly out to the break.

Jet Skis are outlawed in the Grenadines. I wonder how they would classify this thing?

From their website:

The Light L16 Camera is being built to the IP54 specification, so it will be dust- and water-resistant.

IP54 Enclosures' Characteristics:

Protection from dirt, dust, oil, and other non-corrosive material
Protection from contact with enclosed equipment
Protection from splashing water
