Schlepping boards
« on: May 22, 2015, 05:46:59 PM »
Just ordered a Big Board Schlepper. When I bought my board, I thought "Of course I can lift and carry a 25-pound board and hoist it up on the car. I lift more than that at the gym." Naturally, I didn't take the unwieldiness factor into account. Hoping the BBS will make the board a little easier to carry once I get off the car (another fun challenge). Anyone have any experience with this product or other advice? I have a 12.6 404 PVC.

I've been thinking about getting one as well. When I did a search for them, there were a few cute girls demoing them. Among the chicks was one of our fellow Zoners giving the serious pose 8) Pro.....fessional model!

It's not overhead to me!

You want one of the ones that can hold your paddle as well, if you can. In wind it can be hard to stop the board weathervaning otherwise, or blowing off your shoulder. With the paddle secure you can use both hands to steady it in wind.

I've seen them at Privates and they seem to do the trick.  The man winds up carrying his girl friend's board on one shoulder and his on the other.

Check out www.newfsurfboardnet.com for a great alternative. Light weight, comfy straps and they offer just the right amount of protection on the nose, tail and rails.

If your leash is long enough you can loop it over the nose and shoulder carry.

May be good to have extra padding if your shoulders get sore.  ;)

Let us know how it works for you.  :)

Save your money and your time.

That thing makes me think of taking the an Airbus A380 to get your morning coffee.  They even had to fade forward the set up and breakdown procedure.

This SUP strap works with webbing as narrow as 1".  Use 2" if you are worried about load.  No need for the padding it just adds bulk.

I carry this strap with me EVERY TIME I SURF and have used it more than 500 times on SUP's ranging from 9' to 12' in wind up to 30 mph.  Believe me it has been ridden hard, put away wet and comes out smelling like a rose  ;D

i used to use a board schlepper for my 25 lb. weber longboard down the trails south of San O.  it's better than carrying but it still beats up your shoulder a bit. The wheels I just bought are a much better answer.

I bought one of those when I was using my giant beginner barge to surf over a year ago.  Took the Schlepper out of the package, looked at the complex setup procedure, put it back in the box and have never used it.  It's been sitting there a year.  I just don't have the patience to deal with something like that.

Beasho!

Gotta try this - anything I can stuff into my suit and take with me makes lotsa sense....

BTW that PSH of yours looks like it can handle the bigger stuff.  I'm lurking around here just south of Pleasure Point so I don't see much big stuff (not that I could handle it if I did  :o :o :o)

That said, maybe we'll get some south swell next week!

My husband says it worked great when he tried it out at home. By the time we got it off the car at North Star beach (Newport Harbor), I didn't see any point in putting it on because the distance to the water wasn't that great, so I still haven't tried it myself.

A lot of people in our area also use wheels for SUPs kayaks and canoes.  We have a very early version purchased 20 years ago to bring our canoe down to the ocean from our home.  Works a treat.

Did paddle the old Wenonah canoe standing braced to the thwart - but was all crouched over with a wood double bent shaft.  Must try with our long carbon SUP paddle this summer.  No more stand up crouching!   :)
