Longboard Style SUP
« on: May 10, 2015, 08:15:05 PM »
I'm looking for a longboard style sup.  Sounds easy enough, however I don't want 30"-33" wide, 4"+ thick, etc.

Does any company make a 9'-10' long (preferably closer to 9'), 25"-28" wide, low volume longboard style sup?

I'm relatively light guy and don't need the massively wide, high volume, cater to the everyman type board.

I've looked at a few online, but I can't get past the 30"+ width.

My short surf sups are down to 25"-28" wide with barely enough volume to float me, but perform great on the wave.  I'm sort of looking for the same thing in a longboard style sup.

I looked at a King's Knight 10'x30"x4" which I may get if my search comes up empty.
Does one exist?

You are describing the second board I want to build. A non-all-arounder nose riding SUP with a relatively narrow profile sounds really nice to me.

I'm hoping I could stand 9'6" x 26" or 27" and I'd love to do it with a spoon nose and noserider rocker. It'd be hell to paddle but really fun at a point break.

There are some other threads about this in here and it seems that a Pearson is most likely the closest board to that non-custom. (Although his customs rule.)

I demoed a 9'0" x 28", 120 L Infinity Slater Trout in February for a session and had fun.  It was the Boardworks version and was a little heavy, but I saw/held a custom version and it was sweet.

Infinity and King's are putting out great low volume longboard SUPs.

Check out RATbeachrider's 9'2" King's SS...

Sunova makes the 9'6 Style
9'6 x 27 1/2 x 3 7/8 at 112 L

Reviews on Seabreeze rate these boards very highly. Super light and super strong.
Firewire surfboards were the brainchild of Sunova's Bert Burger. That's good pedigree.
Sunova has been around since 1976 in Australia and is coming to the US.

I am in the process of trying to get a Sunova SPEEED.... with a Style next on my list.  Everything I read about these SUPs is amazing.
I like my 10'6 Alana, but if I can get a Sunova that weighs 5 to 8 lbs less? and stronger?.... I'm all over it.

Where are you located? They may be on the shelves in Cal. of Canada now... or soon.

You can also check out the Jimmy Lewis Striker..... 8'11 x 29 x 4 at 130 L
Theres a few reviews about this board on the Zone

Try to find an used Naish Nalu 9’6’’ x 28’’.
I have one and it’s exactly what you are looking for.
Why Naish stopped making it, is a mystery to me.
Starboard 12'2 x 26
Naish Javelin 14 x 26
Naish Nalu 9'6 x 28
Starboard Hypernut 7'4 x 30 + foil

Thanks for the heads up on the older Nalus.  I just came across a new/unused 2011 Nalu 9'x26" (120L) for $699.  I'll have to call to see how much shipping from California to Florida will be. :o

Bean, I wish but that one is that Dave shaped for his own use. I posted as an example of what a 92 liter 10' narrrrow noserider really looks like..

We build a 25" wide cross-over Hammer SUP/surfboard that works nicely for lighter riders...
These are 7'10" x 25" x 3.5" models shown below...but, I could easily stretch one out to 9' and make it any volume/width/thickness you desire...

Al & I ride the 8'11" Hammer for our longboard style SUP...they nose ride like a dream...yet, can carve off the tail with the best of them...very fast & efficient rocker line...

I also use mine as a windSUP...the Hammer is an extremely versatile tool...;-)

check out this deal on a 2011 Naish Nalu 9'0.  A friend of mine picked one up & surfs it pretty well, he's around 170 lbs.  Could work for you if you're already used to tiny boards.
