2015 Jimmy Lewis boards!
« on: September 10, 2014, 04:14:25 PM »
The new boards were officially released at the Surf Expo.  Two new wave shapes to round out Jimmy's pro wave category, the Super tech and the World Wide join the Stun Gun and Kwad.  New carbon construction available in several models.  New 25 psi inflatable sup's.  Check out the youtube link for a video that goes over the whole line inside the Expo.

Good stuff. Any thoughts on whether or not the new carbon construction will be a little more flexible than the competition? His regular construction has always impressed me with great strength combined with a degree of flexibility similar, to a degree, of glassed custom boards.
Let it come to you..

Hey Big,
As I understand it, Jimmy is going to use the same construction techniques with carbon as with his traditional construction.  He won't have a full wrap of PVC on the rails, that's what makes a lot of boards too stiff. Jimmy has two separate sandwiches going on top and bottom. Each creates a very strong skin, but the sandwich disconnects on the rails where a layer of Coremat runs the length of the board giving it flex. This should make the new carbon construction able to flex more like a surf board than other types of carbon board construction.  Check out the video below of a car running over a Jimmy Lewis surfboard and you'll notice two things: Flex and durability.

That's one way to get the extra rocker out.

What's cool is that the board flexes flat, then springs back to it's original shape all while being lighter than most epoxy sandwich designs. It will be interesting to see if the new carbon sandwich has similar properties. It's been suggested that it should have similar flex, which should translate into a carbon board that rides smoothly, that would be something!
