Shoulder - Good News / Bad News
« on: August 20, 2014, 05:08:18 PM »
I fell off a ladder a while back http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php/topic,24702.0.html and a few days later my right shoulder became really painful.  Then the pain went across my back into my neck and down my right arm.  I figured it was time to get it checked out and when I got to the doc and took off my shirt there was a nasty rash on my upper right arm and shoulder.  The doc said the good news was that my shoulder joint was probably fine, but the bad news was that I had shingles.  He plays competitive tennis and had a similar situation where he thought he'd torn something right before the shingles rash showed up.

I guess shingles is better than shoulder surgery but I'm not so sure; maybe in a couple of weeks.  ;)

Shingles, huh, that's what you get for playing on the roof.

Seriously, though, it can be a really painful and disabling condition. There is a vaccine for it now, and they encourage older people to take it, but I suppose that might get into another heated vaccine controversy.  I have taken the vaccine and did not notice any side effects.

Two of my grandparents got them and were unhappy campers for several weeks. May your recovery be quicker, I wish you the best.
