It would not surprise me if Slats after retiring from asp at least adopts sup and becomes ambassador....thoughts?. Trust me coming from cocoa he gets it.... new company?....he gets it and will embrace sup!  It's happening!

Kelly's girl friend lives right across the street from a house I remodeled. He'd park his black Suburban right in front of my job. I talked to him a number of times, but it was mostly about construction and golf. One day he saw my unlimited on my car and asked if I do the races. He knew Kai Lenny, and said he heard he was doing well on the SUP tour. He didn't say much more on the SUP subject. You can always peg a long time surfer who's just getting into SUP surfing. No matter how good they are, they just hold the paddle in one hand away from them once they are on the wave. They don't know what to do with it. I did the same thing. I now actually hold my paddle with both hands. While I'm on a wave!

If you look at old pics of the Ah Choy clan or John “Zap” Zapotocky , they all pretty much used the paddle only for getting into waves.  Once the wave is caught they just surfed the board in the normal manner.  Then again, back in those days they were using regular surfboards and not “SUP” boards.  Granted they were huge surfboards but still surf boards none the less.

It was really Dave and Laird that started to use the paddle as a tool on the wave.

KS was cruising the lineup pre heat at the ASP Fiji event for a warmup paddle.  His stroke looked ok although his was just in cruise mode and not on a wave.
